A/C Problem

I had a horrendous problem on the way home from work. The air conditioning was working fine, and then it just quit working. I turned it off and on a few times, and the compressor was kicking on, but no cool air. I left it off for about 10 miles, turned it back on, and it worked fine. WTF?

Has anyone had this problem or one like it?

Maybe the car was getting too hot?

The weather has been incredibly hot / humid as of lately. Roll with the windows down for a day or two.

Misread, that it works fine again, but its too hot!

Is there an automatic shutoff for the A/C when the car gets above a certain temp? It didn't happen on the way to work this morning. This is on the interstate cruising at 75 mph by the way.

If it can't keep cool going down the interstate, what would the problem be? Airflow through the radiator? Water flow?
