Project Talon 09

When I was in Iraq I bought a slow rusted out 2g, The car was knocking, dying, had mushy suspension, brakes were shot, turbo was creeping, the drivers door was completely rusted on the bottom, there was rust all over the car and the rockers were falling out, the rims were bent the interior was worn the speakers were blown and the gauges were from 1984. Being bored and having money to waste after selling a Cadillac and STI, I hopped on line and bought just about every part I could find on ebay, forums and random car sites. My goal was to build a quick, reliable daily driver that turned heads. I found out why every one on mitsustyle hates body kits, went all summer without sleep wasted way too much money on bondo and had a lot of fun J
Lots of people on this site ridiculed me for buying up Evo parts, and said I should just get one, and it probably would have been cheaper
L and faster in the long run but I’m very happy with how it turned out.
Wish I could have pulled a few more ponies out of it but I have to thank Julian for watching the sun set and rise putting my 20g on.
I can’t drive in the winter any more but thanks for the suspension Dave and sorry my stock shit was so rusted!
Let me know what you think, I know that everyone hates body kits, I understand why, its way to much work and money for something that doesn’t increase performance.

The Pics are a little out of order and i didnt take 1/2 as many pics as I should have. The end of this summers work is at the end make sure u check them out.

I just don't like body kits cause they're fugly. Can appreciate the work put in though. Color and body kit ruins it for me though.

Re: Project Talon 09

Hmm. I'm glad you did the work yourself, but the kit ruined it for me. Otherwise good job. And I hope the jambs are at least not forest green like the engine bay is....

I hate body kit's because about 80% of them make cars look ridiculous/ghey, ruining the sexy lines the car already had. And the fact you chose the "Blitz" style; that was terrible the minute it was on the big screen in fast and furious 1, over played and over riced. Just sharing my two cents.

Let me know what you think, I know that everyone hates body kits, I understand why, its way to much work and money for something that doesn’t increase performance.
Its not that they cost way too much money and doesn't increase performance, they just typically change the lines of the car, sometimes in a graceful/smooth way, and sometimes they add sharp edges and angles that aren't really pleasing to the eye. Add to it a bright/harsh color and some (no offense) cheap looking tail lights, and well....I don't like it What is that wing off of, a wrx? It really doesn't fit the car IMHO.

With that said, it looks clean, its cool that you fixed up an old/tired dsm, and I like that you put evo seats in it. I always hated the seats in my 2G.

DSM's must be driven in the winter, its their birthright! Have you had it tuned yet? Let's see the power mod list and some dyno results! Maybe you'll win our hearts that way

Re: Project Talon 09

the evo parts are the only thing that looks good imho. the rest is right out of F&F. Also I hope you like to pay to have it painted all the time. the molded body kit will crack out all the time if you plan to drive it on MN roads. that is a show mod only

Re: Project Talon 09

Couple things:
1. Why did you put a WRX spoiler on a 2G?
2. At least paint the front bumper mesh and support beam black.

Re: Project Talon 09

Not a fan of taking a 2gb talon which IMAO I think is getting really rare and making it into a eclipse with a bodykit.. Just think its making a rare car even more rare... I personally like the 2gb talons and they only made them 97 98 so only 2 years as to where the eclipse was 3 and more common... However I do like and want to do the same thing that you did with evo parts and have wanted to do it for a long time. Good job on that.

Body kit = FAIL
Evo parts in a dsm = FTW

Re: Project Talon 09

I had the WRX wing sitting in my basement and it just happened to fit so I went with it. I’ll get around to painting that stuff black when I have more time, and I’m praying the molding doesn’t break! I glued between, mudded and sanded smooth before paint pretty much just followed the body work book I got.

I don’t think I’ll win your hearts on performance; it’s mostly a daily driver, As far as a mods list goes its nothing too fast.
It has a 1g block bored 0.020” over, 2g head, metal gaskets, ARP Head Studs, JE 0.020" pistons/rings, Eagle Rods, 1mm oversized stainless steel intake and exhaust valves, HKS 272 intake and exhaust cams
FIC 750cc injectors, Walbro 255 FP, Aeromotive FPR, K&N Fuel filter SS Fuel line
Large Indy Race Core FMIC with 2 ½” hard pipes, 1g Intake Manifold and throttle body, k&N intake, Evo3 exhaust manifold, FP Housing 20g Turbo, Greddy BOV REcuric, Tial 38mm Gate, SS 3 ½” o2 Housing, 3 ¼” Exhaust all the way back
Optima Redtop Batt, NGK Plugs, High performance wires
ACT 2600 Clutch and lightweight fly SS Clutch lines, Hallman MBC, DSM Link 2.5 (Tuned at DBs by Shane)
Hawk HP plus pads, SS Brake lines, AEM drilled and slotted Rotors up front, slotted in the rear, Tokico Illumina Adjustable suspension, 1 ½” Lowered
I was only able to make 232AWHP and 219FTLBS @ 17psi on 92. Its fun to drive it hits 17lbs at 2800rpms and holds it until 7000. I want to keep it as reliable as possible for the next 2 years while I finish school but if any one has any suggestions on how to make more power asides from E85 Ill be happy to hear it. I do want bigger injectors, a new intake manifold and throttle body and exhaust manifold.
