sticky gas peddle

on my 97 gst for some reason when i have done a pull, or just worked the engine a little harder, the gas peddle seems to want to stick a little when my foot is completely off of it. also i have noticed that it has started to do it a little more regularly as it has gotten colder. i have no idea on this one. any suggestions or ideas of why this could be happening?

Have you ever rerouted your throttle cable under the hood? Check for something rubbing or interfering with the throttle cable. Make sure the trottle cable bracket on your intak is mounted with two screws, maybe one backed out or it came loose.

If you don't find anything wrong I would try replacing your throttle cable

Definitely check what Jim said above. You could also try lubricating the cable by putting a few drops of oil on the cable where its emerges from the casing and let it work its way in a bit.

You can also try taking the t/b off and cleaning the inside with brake cleaner, and/or put some lithium grease on teh cable spring area-that's what I did 5 yrs ago and it worked fine after that.

Re: sticky gas peddle

Ahh, checking the TB is a great idea too. I would do that before replacing cable.

Re: sticky gas peddle

If you have cruise, It could also be the mechanisim or cables to that also, I had cables to the cruise box not lay right under the hood, and it stuck my throttle down at WOT... that was interesting.

Re: sticky gas peddle

The cable was frayed and actually coming apart under the dash by my feet, causing said symptoms. Check with flashlight before proceeding with cable replacement.

This sucked hardcore because the replacement cable costs like $70 at the dealership.

Go to junk yard, get the non turbo/non cruise control throttle cable, install, issue resolved.

Just to clarify, i'm currently using one out of a neon, I have the correct replacement cable.....somewhere.
