FT-86
I've known an AE-86 toyota/subaru hybrid was coming out for a long time, but it's getting close. There's a lot of different rumors out about it but for sure it'll be a Subaru boxer engine + toyota drivetrain. it's also confirmed it'll have direct fuel injection and of course most likely their 2.5L engine. Since the price is supposed to be "cheap" I'm gonna assume some EJ255 hybrid like the engine in my Subaru. So basically a new WRX bottom end.
It'll be interesting to see if an AWD version will be available or if it's just going to be RWD, but it's possible the Subaru version will have an AWD option and an STi trim.
One thing is for certain (and two thangs fo sho) if it's what I expect I think the Evo is going bye bye this Fall and this will be my new toy, since I get a 10-20% discount. Only time will tell.
Discuss...

could be a fun ride. Is this still a concept or actually going into production?

Re: FT-86
This is going to be a production car, it's been postponed 2 years (was supposed to be out in 09) so we'll see I guess. I haven't heard anything about it at work, so it makes me wonder if they're gonna announce another delay. I would think we would be ramping up for it soon.

Re: FT-86
Looks a little longer than a 370z or whatever it is now. I like it though! Any more pics of it?
I thought that was a ford symbol in the front at first and almost choked.

Re: FT-86
Looks like stock brake cooling ducts right under the headlights. That's interesting.
I'd heard it was going to be a 2.5 but NA. That leaves a future option for special editions and a happy aftermarket.

Re: FT-86
It will definitely be RWD, there's just rumors right now it'll be in an AWD configuration under Subaru. Looking like base will be 25k and a mid-high version will be closer to 30k

Re: FT-86
If it looks like that coming out of production, i would consider switching to subbie.

Re: FT-86
Ah, I interviewed at Polaris and they get a suby discount too. If that's what you meant.
Ps. I'd rock this thing if it were turbo. I am not going to a 2.5L NA motor, not enough powah.

Re: FT-86
Ahhh nice man. Yeah you get a VIP discount for working with their partners and stuff.
I will not be buying this unless it's a turbo either. I would think it's gonna be a NA if it were the 90's but it seems like Subaru loves turbo'ing everything today and it's kind of built into their platform. I'm going to guess that shot above is gonna be their STi version with the hoodscoop for the TMIC. Obviously I have no idea what I'm talking about, but here's to hoping haha.
EDIT: I should say I'm sure there'll probably be NA version (probably the 25k version) and it sounds like Toyota might only have a NA version? But if Suby has an STi it'll most def be a turbo I think, that's what I'm thinking.

Re: FT-86
I would definitely consider the STI version! Probably will be everything the Genesis Coupe 2.0T should have been plus some.

Re: FT-86
An STi coupe? I'm not a coupe guy, in general, but god knows it's better looking than anything they've produced in a while.

Re: FT-86
Been following this car for a couple of years... it could be interesting. The boxster engine sounds a lot different with same length headers.
Lots more pics here: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2
Still rumored at 2700lbs. I think it's drop dead sexy, with a proper sports car profile.

2700lbs? Sign me up!
Seriously if they would have an STI version with turbo and RWD and 2700lbs...this will be my next fun car.
