For anyone who has blown up a T-25, drop your oil pan.

After reading Brian's posts about his no oil pressure and hearing about the possible turbo bearings in the pan, I decided to drop my pan on my 7 bolt that had devloped severe rod knock.

I found lots of pieces of the turbo bearing laying in the bottom of my pan. Tons of brass? metal shavings deposited from the turbo oil drain tube over to the oil pickup in the pan. It looked pretty nasty, I'll try and snap some pics later tonight.

I also was able to grap the bottom of the #1 connecting rod and move it almost 1/4" in any direction. The connecting rod bearings were pounded paper thin and started to squeeze out along the the side of the connecting rod and caps. The crank is fucked. Oh well nobody wants a 7 bolt so it isn't that big of a deal I guess.

Hope this info helps anyone who has a 2g turbo.

Jim

Just wondering if I should bother dropping my pan, because I recently had to replace my T-25 due to it leaking massive amounts of oil into my intake and exhaust. I noticed when I took it out that it had a lot of shaft play so i'm sure the bearing is fried.

I was trying to remember if he got one or not. I knew both his cars were down, but didn't remember what he was doing.

Yes, I currently own three vehicles and the one that works is in storage!

I had a 2.4 built with I think the same rod and piston combo as yours JET. I hope to have everything done by Sunday.

DSMKPB - My t-25 was blowing lots of smoke when shifting or at idle. I could hear the compressor and turbine wheels grinding within their housings. I had an inch of shaft play when I removed my turbo. I had about a quart of oil spread through out the intercooler and piping. If your turbo has nasty shaft play it wouldn't hurt to take a look. I'm not sure what effect all the peices of bearings had on my motor's rod knock but it couldn't have helped. With the turbo drain line disconnected from the oil pan, you may be able to "swap" the oil pan inside the drain hole and see if you have any bits of bearing. My oil pan had a whole trail of little bearing pieces that were deposited along the bottom of the oil pan and by the turbo oil drain connection.

BTW I cut open my last oil filter and found lots of brass colored metal shavings within. Hope my new turbo didn't take a beating.

Jim

I'm going to buy a new filter today just in case. I replaced it when I put the new turbo on.

But am going to do it anyways just in case there are shavings. And to Andy and Jet's liking I'm going to hit up mitsu more then likely for one. I know you guys all cringe when you see that I run FRAM oil filters. (have been since day 1 on my car)

And look at all the problems! :P If you don't run Mitsu, at least run the Napa ones (Wix).

Be sure to get the Pure One. I got a bunch of Puroilator Premium Plus filters and they had cardboard in them, like a fram. Need less to say I wasn't to displeased when my stuck oil pressure relife valve killed two of them. I use Wix (Napa Gold) now that they are used up.
