EGT's are high, help with it?
I would like to know if someone maybe knows of why my EGT's are so high. They are at 1350-1450 at cruise in 5th gear at 70 MPH, once i get on the gas, they rise and keep rising, I never let them get past 1550. But i would like to know if anyone knows why they would climb that high? timing advance? lean? rich? any other questions just please ask. Im running about 11 PSI on a 14b in a manual 92 laser RS AWD, with 3 inch exhaust and rewired fuel pump. thanks,
-Colin

The things you want to look for are;
Very lean mixture
Restiction or poor flow on the exhaust side of the engine (this includes the turbo)
Weak timing

Re: EGT's are high, help with it?
well its ported and i have no creep, so no resriction right? and then i have a rewired fuel pump, so im probably not running lean. But I have a new problem today, I went to floor it, and the boost went up, but i went no where, like i wasnt making any power. It only happened that one time, anything it could be?

Does the car still have a catalytic comverter? If so, make sure is not going bad and plugging up.

Re: EGT's are high, help with it?
1350-1450 at cruise and 1550 at WOT is pretty normal. Over 1650 is bad. Get a datalogger on there and see if you have any knock problems. Otherwise tuning with an EGT gauge is almost useless.

Could be boost leaks (not going anywhere) or a slipping clutch. Wouldn't explain the EGTs though. Get a logger on there.

I don't think a boost leak would cause high EGT.

Re: EGT's are high, help with it?
What do you think the EGTs should be? That is not out of the ordinarly high. Too high is over 900c, which is around 1650F. Your EGTs should be fairly hot at cruise. You usually run pretty lean at cruise, which is what you want for good gas mileage. If you are too lean at cruise, the car will sputter and buck. Your EGTs will go up at WOT under high load. If they shoot up too 1600F+ too fast then you are probably running too little timing due to the ECU retarding timing from knock. You could try richening it up, if it's knocking, which should keep it from running low timing and making the EGTs shoot up. Low timing causes high EGTs and in some cases boost creep.
