double syncro?

First off, I drive a 90' Talon AWD, turbo, 5 speed.
2nd Gear has yet again to go to the crapper, 1 bad shift and the syncro's shot and it grinds. I've herd alot about using a double syncro 2nd and how its soo magical, but I've never been able to figure out what exactly you do differently. Is it just a syncro, if so, where do I get it. Or does anybody know if the solid brass syncros work good, without failing from 1 bad shift, like the ones with the fiber inserts? Any know how on this would be great...

Re: double syncro?

Do you replace them yourself? If so, take the tranny apart and check the retaining clip that put tension on the 3 keepers (keys) that lift the synchro when shifting. I had them spin on 1st thru 3rd gear and it wouldnt allow me to put it in any gear without it poping back out or grinding. Put the retaining clip back on the right way and presto... shifts beautifly now. Just a thought on something to check before you start buying parts if you dont really need them. Just my $.02~

To use the double synchro you need the whole kit from TRE cause you get a modified 2nd gear for the synchro to fit, that is where I got mine from also. It was about $325 for FWD or AWD and the benifit of it is smoother shifting and it allows you to shift at a lot higher RPMs from what I have experianced. I guess they say it is suppose to be stronger and outlast the OEM ones too. I have mishifted it and it still is fine for me.

Re: double syncro?

Yeah, I know what clips your talking about, i haven't had any probs with those yet, but I put them all in the right way the first time I had it apart. With the notch in the ring in the lil thingy. That TRE 2nd sounds too expensive for me right now, I was wonderin if maybe someone knew what part number the all brass syncro was, instead of the fiber core'd one... cause everytime I go to the dealer they give me like 3 different options, and all I get for a description was a part #, so i just guessed...

Re: double syncro?

Well I figured you put them in right from the beginning and so did I... The reason I was saying that is cause when my clutch and LSD went, all 4 retaining clips (1st thru 4th) somehow spun so it was throwing off the synchros and only raising it on 1 side. I didnt mean that you put them in there wrong, I was just saying something about them cause it could have spun or popped loose.
