Best way to hide a front mount?
I want to get a front mount for my 97 GSX, but before I do I was wondering if anyone knew some good ways of hiding it? Basically, I want to make my car a sleeper. I've heard of people painting the front of the core black? Any suggestions?

Not putting one on would make your car a sleeper. There's no way of hiding it without it looking like you're hiding something.

Grill mesh works sometimes. Depends on how small the holes are. Annodizing would probably be the best idea but powder coating it would work too if you have a good powder coat booth or know someone who does.

Re: Best way to hide a front mount?
i was thinking of this too, when i get a fmic, i'm going to anodize it, cause painting and powder coating are too thick, and might block some of the passage thru it, and they don't radiate heat i guess, so anodizing (can't spell?) wont have any of those effects cause it stains the metal i guess, there are a few threads about in on dsmtuners. and its not all that much to do it, i think one guy got it done for 100 bucks.

best way to make a sleeper... get the FMIC black, put like mesh in front of it. Find The piece that goes where the opening was where the side mount was(the little plastic thing that RS and GSs have). If I saw that then I would just assume that you had a non turbo. Just my 2 cents.

Re: Best way to hide a front mount?
Sleeper is overrated anyways. The only people who would be scared of a DSM with a FMIC vs one without are probably too slow to be worth racing anyways. I hate that grill stuff, ricey and blocks the airflow too much.

Re: Best way to hide a front mount?
if you really want to surprise people that you are racing, just put a v-tec sticker on the back and they ALL will think you are a ricer!
thats it, thats ALL you will have to do

Run a water to air intercooler, that'll be a sleeper!

Run an air-to-water intercooler. You won't see anything from the outside, and they can be just as efficient as a big fmic. A lot of VW guys do this.
Here is a perfect example:

A light coat of flat black paint will not hurt anything.

Sleepers are only fun for so long. Just get a giant FMIC and leave the bumper off. Then your hardcore, a FMIC and no bumper for weight reduction.

Re: Best way to hide a front mount?
To be honest.....is it possible to make a DSM a sleeper? I mean, most people know what they are capable of and usually don't mess with them anyways. That's like trying to make a Corvette a sleeper by hiding the FMIC for the TT setup. Stop hiding it and show it off....it means you are a serious player. As long as it's not something cheesy like a Starquest FMIC. Biggest joke of a front mount I've seen that some DSMer's actually consider 'upgrading' to.
If you want a sleeper.....get something like a GVR4, Colt Turbo, or anything that never came with a turbo motor and swap it in (ie, Mirage, Expo, Van, Mighty Max, or other makes too even....Chevette with 4G63? hrm.)

Re: Best way to hide a front mount?
Heres a link for my car. Thats about as hidden as I've ever seen on a DSM. All I did was a VERY thin coat of flat black spray paint. Then paint the hose clamps and have your piping painted/powder coated black as well.

Re: Best way to hide a front mount?
Doesn't painting a FMIC make it not cool as good? I kinda agree with Wizard, who gives a fuck if people know that you have a front mount. The only way I can see putting something over it is if you want to protect it from shit hitting it. If you don't care about that just leave it alone.
