What Stage for Shep Tranny?

I'm thinking about getting this done, I was just wondering which stage would be good for the daily driver, but every now and then a weekend car (if you know what i mean) .

Well i was thinking either stage 2 or 3

for a daily driver a basic rebuild would be just fine, but if your gonna add power then stage 2 or 3 woudl probably be good.

Re: What Stage for Shep Tranny?

If I had an AWD daily driver and wanted a nice tranny I would probably go with stage 2. Stage 1 might be enough, but with stage 2 you get new 3rd / 4th gears, shift rail and hub / sleeves for 3-4. For a couple hundred more dollars - I think that's worth it. If you don't have massive HP and don't drive aggressive 24 / 7, this should hold you over for a LONG time! But like I said, stage 1 is probably enough

The amount he drives his car is not as important as to HOW he drives his car. Even if he only plans to beat the shit out of it 1 weekend a month.. he would want to possibly consider a higher stage given the history of our transmissions.

The way I see it is, you can spend a couple hundred more now.. or you can spend the 895 + 80 + 80 again later.

How about you tell us something about the car which this tranny will be going into? Power goals? Modifications? Etc....

Re: What Stage for Shep Tranny?

The stock shift forks aren't weak if they're new. Unless you're making over 450whp or beat the everliving shit out of your car, or don't know how to drive, a plain old rebuild is fine. A Shep rebuild is most likely better than a new stock one.

People keep telling me if you send in a good core, you get $300 off. Is that $300 off the listed price on the website??

Re: What Stage for Shep Tranny?

I believe prices include the core. There is a section on the site to buy a brand new mitsu tranny that shep has gone through, no core required.

Dido.. although my end case was apparently broken upon arrival to Shep's shop. He's awesome; I'm def. getting all my tranny work done from him.

Re: What Stage for Shep Tranny?

Jim with the Blue 2G that had the same front as my car just bought a Stage 4 for his car. He was planning on moving back to MN from Ft. Lauderdale at end of March...

if you see a Blue 2G with now a 99 style front with the same side skirts as tpunkx's ask him about it.

If I ever have to do any major overhauling to my tranny stage 3 would be the lowest I'd be willing to go. I like the stage 4 but I'd change the welded diff for a 4 spider since I still drive my car on the streets along with the steel shift forks.. (basically it's exactly what Jim got for his 2G came to $3090 with shipping)

Re: What Stage for Shep Tranny?

3xxx hurts pretty bad. Especially when you can buy a real decent 1g for that much :P

stages 1-2 will manage most street driven cars. 3-4 is more for the drag racing or very violent driving habbits. Remember, no tranny is indestructable. You pay 3k for a very nice tranny.. it will still break sometime.
