Re: good batteries?
If you are going for light weight, I have a Hawker for sale.

Re: good batteries?
Optima batteries are not light, but they are extremely powerful and I have never killed one in my life, I think my kill count for lead acid batteries is about 10 now

Re: good batteries?
I have an Interestate in the Talon but I dont know how well it works since the Talon isnt running and I have an Ever Start in the Cavy. The Everstart has been a good battery for the past two years. My buddy has a Optima Red Top and he thinks its great.

The smallest battery that has the output that you need. Garden tractor battery I would guess.

Re: good batteries?
I fried an Optoma yellow top a few years ago. As to how I fried it, I have no idea. I had it wired in series with my underhood battery for my stereo power supply.
One thing to keep in mind is that a number of well known battery brands are all manufactured by the same company, Johnson Controls:

Re: good batteries?
Thats funny jakey, i looked at that link and realised that they are a client of the company i work for. They use our laser vibrometers in development of their products. I wonder if i can get a nice discount (free maybe).

Should have wired it in parallel which gives you two 12v sources feeding into one circuit. Series gives you a set-up that wants to be 24v.

I'll throw in another vote for Optimas. They usually have them in stock at Batteries Plus.

Re: good batteries?
I had an optima that was 11 years old and still worked like a champ. I can't say the same for the Exide Orbital, which looks the same, but I have killed one in under a year. If you want a light weight one, go to Walmart and get a lawnmower battery. The little things work great!

Re: good batteries?
Id reccomend Optima batteries, seeing as I work in the battery industry, I could probably get a pretty decent deal on a red top Optima here at the Woodbury Batteries Plus.

Yup, I have seen a couple of them go bad after a year or too, BUT I have seen many more last a long time. Every brand will have their bad apples but that is what the warranty is for.
Like Jakey said though Johnson Controls makes batteries for many many companies. Optima, Ever Start, Die Hard, Ford, etc... They are the leading manufacturer with batteries and produce some really good products.
I suggest Die Hard but I am a little biased since I sell them.
EDIT: Here is a link to all Johnson Controls batteries. There have been recent changes though with companies they own and will probably be adding more to their lineup.

Any battery made by Johnson Control, Motor Craft and AC Delco.
Avoid anything made by Exide.

Re: good batteries?
+1 for Optima redtop. I have one in my Spyder. I can put the top up and down all day long and doesn't even put a drain on the battery. (without the car running)
I also ran a sump pump for two hours using that same battery. The Spyder still started up fine afterwards.
later,
Curt
