Speedometer cable troubles

Hey guys, I am having a bit of a time getting my speedometer cable out of my tranny (its a 90 AWD). I unscrewed the top plastic dealy and the one bolt next to it and nothing is budging. I have given it a good, stout tug a couple times and nothing has happened, but I dont want to fuck it up either. One it comes out is this what is supposed to look like? (courtesy of my parts car with the tranny already pulled)

Thanks guys!

Re: Speedometer cable troubles

If you put the bolt back in, the picture you posted is all that comes out. With the bolt out, the whole sensor can come out. Actually better so you dont break it removing the tranny.

If the tranny/engine are still together, turn the engine over by hand to rotate the flywheel with the tranny in gear. This in return will move the front differential which the speed sensor is geared into. Might help if its stuck. Sounds like something is either rusted in or the gears stripped.

Re: Speedometer cable troubles

Well not sure how its on 1g's but on 2g's there is a bolt holding it to the trany as well. Thats the bolt what destroyed one of my freshly rebuilt trany . I just wish i knew who left it in there.
