Unless you're trying to eke out that last 10th of a second improvement, don't waste your money.

Yep, not worth the cash unless you can find one cheap that someone else did.

I agree with these last two, not worth it unless you are maxed out and need that last 2.473% of power at any cost.

Re: 1G extrude honed intake, any info/opinions?
So it's expensive, but does it work? Was there a power gain for people that have done it? Could it replace or do the same thing as sheet metal intake? I would rather run a honed intake for $500 dollars if it does the same thing as a SMIM. I'd love to not have to worry about fitment or cracking issues.

^They seem to be going used for $200 for that price I would check it out.

Yup, $200 and under (excluding core) would probably be worth it. R&R'ing IM is a PITA though, just be ready for your chest and back to hurt. I just did a basic ported manifold on my evo, the runners were portmatched, and the inlet side was bored to 65mm, to exactly match the ported stock TB I had done at the same time (to 65mm). If you do this, look at doing a ported TB at the same time. Not sure what options there are for doing the ported TB on a DSM, but its worth investigating.

It's not worth it over maybe $50. They were both dynoed years ago and there was hardly any difference at all. Your money would be better spent on a boost leak tester. :-)

Re: 1G extrude honed intake, any info/opinions?
I would say $50 is the break even point too. I don't think it even produced 10hp more than a stock one when it was tested. I don't remember the hp of the car, but it was probably low 300's or so.

Re: 1G extrude honed intake, any info/opinions?
I dunno if a SMIM is the way to go on a 16g car though, has anyone ever done this with good results?
Aaron, what's the biggest cam you can run on your current setup? I'd honestly look in that direction before doing much else, you are making such good power already it's just scary.
Another way to look at it: you're already making wicked power. Are you ready for this? *gasp* leave it alone and keep kicking ass & taking names

Re: 1G extrude honed intake, any info/opinions?
^lol. Its true I probably should.
I am not sure what to do. Part of me wants to try the HX35 route, but part of me wants to stay the same and figure out the small flaws in my setup.
We will have to see how things fall into place, if parts are available when I am looking then we will see.

I wouldn't touch a thing if you're making 400whp on a 16g. Drive it and enjoy it.

Re: 1G extrude honed intake, any info/opinions?
Anywho actually you are right, i need to find a way to keep the car as it was with more top end, so I am for sure gonna change out the cams and suspension, that along with some driver mod should get the car past the 11.49 requirement for a cage and maybe some more mph.

Re: 1G extrude honed intake, any info/opinions?
I would do cams and SMIM, but keep the rest the same for the engine stuff. At 400hp a SMIM will give you some decent gains. Toss some FP cams in there too.

Re: 1G extrude honed intake, any info/opinions?
I'd personally say stay away from a SMIM on a 16G street car. Get some hotter cams, gasket match/port the stock IM, and call it good.

Re: 1G extrude honed intake, any info/opinions?
yeah I am in the air about a SMIM for the car, I think I was saying to scheides on my car it would be $450 for maybe a 10-15hp gain, but the key would be that the gain would be up top where 1. the car really needs it and 2. where I really want it, hopefully some more nuts out there will do a SMIM on a 16G car and I will see if its worth it.

I don't know if I'd bother either at 400whp. The cams coming out though keep getting better.
