Texas Evo's

Met up with these dudes, along with Shawn/Doughtcom, last Saturday near Dallas, TX.

At an auto-x event:

Supposedly this is the lightest Evo 8/9 in the world. Fully prepped for auto-x with a completely gutted and stripped interior, no headlights, and plexi windows. It has a 5 lb hood and trunk lid, AMS Wilwood lightweight brakes, FP HTA Green (prototype) turbo, FP4R cams, Cobb Accessport, and a short exhaust that exits in front of the front passenger tire.

At Bonedaddy's for dinner:

The 1986 Dodge Omni GLH-Turbo we drove back from Texas:

Shawn and I flew out of MSP at 6am to arrive at DFW (Dallas-Fort Worth) at 8:30am Friday morning. We partied it up hardcore all day Friday and Saturday with practically no sleep but plenty of 5 Hour Energy drinks + an abundance of strippers to keep us awake. We left Dallas at 1am Sunday morning in the Omni, slept for 1 1/2 hours in some Oklahoma church parking lot at 6am, and arrived back here before 6pm Sunday evening. The trip was insane fun; probably the best adventure I've ever had during a single weekend! We took back country roads instead of 35 until Kansas City (about the half-way point) at which point we jumped on 35 for the rest of the trip. The Omni ran perfectly with the exception no rear taillights due to some blown fuses for which we got pulled over in downtown Dallas for (no ticket, easy fix, really nice cops) and a faulty speedometer. Shawn bought this car last year sometime and we went down to get it since he moved back up here a few months ago. We met some pretty awesome people while down there. Everyone is incredibly friendly; southern hospitality is legit.

It was probably 75 degrees when that pic was taken of the omni.

Pretty sweet, sounds like you guys had a blast!

That gutted evo, did it have CF doors, roof, trunk, hood? It is insanely gutted, just amazes me. Is this the one with the Green and runs 110? I think you said it was 2300 pounds and 400whp on a mustang...that car would be detarded fast.

Re: Texas Evo's

Stock door skins, but all the crash beams and supports have been removed and everything not visible has holes drilled in it. Stock GSR steel roof, but they plan to get an aluminum or possibly carbon fiber one. Still has the stock windshield and rear glass (wipers removed).

It makes 405whp/405wtq on a Mustang dyno with 110 leaded from the pump.

I asked them if they had any interest in Time Attack with the car, it sounds like the son (co-driver) does but the father (driver/owner) doesn't nor does the mother/wife want them to. It sounds like the lightweight AMS Wilwood brakes was the nail in that coffin since they're smaller than stock and could no way take the heat of a large track event.

Ya no way would I want to do wilwoods on any type of racing application except for drag...interesting choice considering they autoX the car...maybe they are powerful enough to handle such a light car? Nutzo.

Re: Texas Evo's

Yeah Texas was a blast... probably the best weekend I've had there! It's obvious that when Chris and I get together it's a ruckus.... yeah I said it! Everyone was really nice, with the exception of the butt ninja driving an Evo X but that's another story. I knew a lot of the guys in NTEC already but everyone was nice and very talkative.

Oklahoma was scary as hell... being in the middle of nowhere on a semi-small road at 3AM with a convenience store full of crazy people (of all spectrum's) is a treat. I also bought a slim jim, so if anyone wants their doors unlocked give me a call, might just do it for a handjob. Also skip Tulsa if you know what's best for you... it's lame.

We were on a turnpike with a speed limit of 75 at about 4AM... that was really weird. No cars, no lights... saw 10 deer on the side of the road and a coyote... would have sucked to hit one of them at between 85 and 5. As Hughes said we decided to pull over. However this was after I was literally hallucinating.... I thought I was driving through a tunnel, probably had something to do with 9 1/2 hours of sleep and massive amounts of liquor in the past 3 days or something.

We pulled in between two church vans at like 6AM. When we woke up 1-1 1/2 hours later one of the vans had moved, was a little strange but didn't bother us too much. By 7:30 we were already back on the road burying the needle in the omni again, we ended up on 35 as Chris said and went through the armpit of the US of A... that would be Kansas City another city to skip if you know what's best for you.

Somewhere in the middle of Iowa we ended up on a side road where a hick decided he would put a truck in the back of another truck and tie a truck to the bigger truck... yeah exactly. He then freaked out when he saw us and drove the bigger truck over the truck that was tied to it. God I hate the bible belt. We pulled over to watch the show for a bit but as it got boring and he started yelling at us we ended up pulling off.

After that, the trip was normal but it was insane up to that point, I wasn't sure how I was still alive Sunday night but I decided to take the Evo out after getting home because that's how I roll.

As far as Texas? To many stories to list here but it was fucking insane... and awesome.

LOL! That would have been good on video, you should have just waved him on and told him to continue doing what he was doing, then shoot fireworks at him and drive off.

Also don't lie, you were going 20mph in REVERSE in that pic!
