Engine Noise through speakers

Just hooked up my components to a 4ch amp and I've got quite a bit of engine noise coming through them. RCA's and power cable are run seperately. I've tried switching RCAs, ground points, everything I can think of but I just can't get rid of it. Any other options?

You tried switching ground points for both the deck and the amp? A bad or shared groung is ussually the culprit, unless you are getting interference through the actual wiring itself.

I didn't switch the ground at the deck as I've never really considered that to be a problem. I tried grounding the amp to the same location as my battery ground (in the hatch) and currently have it bolted to where the spare tire mount is with no difference at either location.

Re: Engine Noise through speakers

Is it coming from the deck or amp?

Re: Engine Noise through speakers

Run the ground for the deck down to your kickpanel, or if it isn't too long ground it with your amp. Make sure the amp is not screwed straight into metal. Also if you are using the RCA's I sold you, trying putting the wire that is attached to the RCA to ground on both ends. Make sure your RCA's aren't run near large factory looms or such.

If none of that works, we sell ground loop isolators at the shop. As long as they are installed at the source unit it should eliminate the problem. But technically it is only a band-aid.

I am sure you have tried most of these, but if need any more help just bring it up to the shop, I will be there till 7 Saturday and Sunday.

Re: Engine Noise through speakers

Well, I did as you guys suggested and re-ground my deck to the same location as the ecu inside the kick panel. It appears that the noise I was hearing is now gone. Thanks for the help.

Re: Engine Noise through speakers

hey, did that fully solve the problem? sorry for the thread revival, i realize this is very old, but I am having the same problem now... any chance you got a pic? Did you ground both the deck and the amp to the same spot and which spot exactly, did you use for the ground?

Re: Engine Noise through speakers

Just re-do the grounds so there more solid, what your hearing is Alternator whine.

If this doesnt work, I can get noise filters at my work also, but new ground location/quality fixes it 90% of the time.

Your spark plug wire shielding may be deteriorated.
