What do you guys think about this? He probably shouldnt have stated these things, and to not try and fix it after the fact is beyond me.

Please explain that, because half the US falls into that group. Elderly, military, people broke due to illness and from hospital bills, etc and so many people doing just fine fall into that group. So they are all lazy and believe the govt has to provide for them? That is so wrong...

Also explain how the highest states that didnt pay income tax in the country are republican, so crazy.

We all have our opinions; after the last election I learned that trying to argue them is futile. We are all convinced we're right, it's easy to find "facts" to back it up, and there's no way any of us are changing our minds. I'll state my opinion and move on since anything more is pointless.

Re: 47% comment

How is it pointless? Im not a fan of Obama either, but Romney messed up on this one.. and hes clearly wrong in the thought process. Yes we have lots of programs that people take advantage of, but to say that the elderly and others are just leaching the system is so messed up. They worked hard all their lives to count on medicare and retirement benefits when they are older. Are you not going to do the same?

Some more interesting info:

http://taxfoundation.org/article/tax...owth-nonpayers

Looks like Obama is just causing more and more credits, which doesnt help the overall growth of people collecting from the govt. But the rates also grew under bush as well.

I'm not counting on the government for anything; it would be nice and I hope it's there obviously, but with the mess government programs are currently in who knows what will or won't be available ~30 years from now.

I would think that in a superpower that we live in, people should be entitled to not starve to death, get healthcare so they dont have to die of the flu due to not being able to afford treatment, and brave the cold weather in a warm bed with a roof over their head.

Conservatives and democrats alike love to group people together and assume they are all bad or good. Like calling all the poor lazy, or calling all the rich snobs.
The poor people of this country are not poor because they choose to be. Im sure everyone would love to be wealthy, or at least comfortable. However some of the hardest working people are considered poor these days. A good example of this is very close to my wife and I.
Jessicas uncle has 3 jobs. Two years ago he was diagnosed with stomach cancer, had to have an operation that took out half of his stomach, and get chemotherapy to get rid of the rest, a week after his surgery, he had to bike to work and to chemo to be able to continue to afford their house and insurance bills. They couldnt afford their house so they had to sell it. Well this past year, his wife was diagnosed with breast cancer, now she needs to go have surgery. They are not on welfare, they should be, but they are not. These people considered by mitt to be poor looking for a handout, are NOT looking for a handout, they are looking for a fucking break.

Mitts comments were heartless, and Elitist and i really hope people realize what hes saying in these comments, basically fuck the less fortunate. Its funny because in the 2008 race republicans were calling obama an Elitist, what happened to that? now you are proud of being elitist?
As far as your comment Chris, i really hope you dont feel that way, because that would make you as bad as this douche.

So if you lost your job today, would you not apply for unemployment? Youd ride out what you have in the bank and hope you get another job asap? Its all about what ifs.. and if you cant see the big picture, I dont understand...

I actually agree with something Rybak stated yesterday in an article. These things are there to be a "hand up" not a hand out. Article here: http://www.minnpost.com/community-vo...amily-and-mine

Same reason you get car insurance, its about what ifs. You may be a good driver but What If someone hits you, What if you slide on ice and hit a post.
Same reason these safety nets are in place "What If the economy tanks..." yeah it already did, and thankfully we didnt just throw them out on the street and tell them to get a job.

Re: 47% comment

I don't think he was literally talking that none of those 47% of people shouldn't be on any type of assistance or programs, but that he is never going to get anyone from that 47% to vote for him.

There are people that deserve and need to be on some sort of assistance, but there are a LOT of people out there that abuse the system. Most of us are optimists and don't want to believe it is true, but it really is more true than most believe. I have seen it myself throughout my life as I did not grow up in a well-to-do family and was friends with people on the system.

The major flaw in the system is that it is nearly impossible for most people to get off the system. Lets say you get $1,000/mo on welfare. If you get a job and start making $500/mo, then they lower your benefits to $500/mo so you are still making the same $1,000/mo. Why would someone work to make the same amount of money and have to pay for gas and stuff to get to work? It gives people no incentive to get off of welfare.

They need to let you keep some of that extra money you make, so only reduce the welfare by 50% of what they make, so in that same scenario you are making $500/mo from work and $750 from welfare, now you are making $1,250/mo instead of $1k and you can actually see a benefit from working! Government programs are just poorly thought out and poorly run, now our healthcare will be also. Yay!
