To Tube, or not to Tube..

I have the oppertunity to get a Pacesetter Manifold, off of my buddy at work. It's tubular, and all it needs is a fresh coat of paint, or ceramic coating to it. Should I pick it up for 100 bucks or so? He said he'd prolly go even less. The current header is a 2g manifold ( I believe). He says the tubular manifold gave him more top end, and the turbo spooled up a little quicker. Also, where can I take either Manifolds to get an EGT tap welded on?

-A. Swift

P.S.- I tried using the search, but no results where found, containing tubular, mani, or tubular mani..

Re: To Tube, or not to Tube..

ok ok ok. No tubular manifold. So, how do I get an egt fitting on the manifold? Take it to a shop with a drill press, and a welder? That may be the easy part, but what shop? How do I line up the hole to the heat shield?

A tubular Manifold isn't a bad thing. A Pacesetter Manifold is a bad thing.

Use a drill tap and a power drill for the egt gauge. No need to weld it unless you screw up tapping it. Remember, your O2 sensor just threads in.

Re: To Tube, or not to Tube..

Ahhh, but the bunge that comes with the gauge is what the thermal probe screws into, and the bunge itself doesn't have threads to go into the manifold. The thing's gotta be welded in. Silly randy..btw, how's the car commin' along? When am I gettin that first ride bro?

Those are very cheaply built, I dont think the people at pacesetter know how to weld very well. They are the cheapest ones you can buy.

Leave the 02 in its place. Than take your car across the street ( KIA), so I can put in the probe. Tell Weber sorry but your not interested in the header. The 2g manifold on the car now,is it ported?

Re: To Tube, or not to Tube..

Not to mention they use thin gauge steel, and honestly....unless it is equal-length....it's not worth the money anyway. Tubular manifolds do flow a little better usually but come at the cost of reliability. Most 'headers' will crack over time, warp very easily, dissipate too rapidly which is why most of them are coated or wrapped to be worth a damn. Most DSM tubular manifolds also run around $400 and up. So there is a reason why it is so cheap.

Buschur's Conquest runs 8.7x with a 2g manifold, btw.

No for a 1g 2.0L NT, the pacesetter header has usually been a good buy considering there never was a better manifold made from the factory and they are all cracked. And for $100 or less, if it lasts a couple years....you got your money's worth.

Re: To Tube, or not to Tube..

Ya we have a welder, Do you need a place for the sender, for the fuel presser gauge? We could take your banjo bolt on top of your fuel filter, drill and tap it for the sensor.

Re: To Tube, or not to Tube..

Yea, I am thinking I need that too, cause I won't be able to find a place for the fuel psi gauge to tap off of. Also, how hard is it to weld a bunge into a cast iron manifold? I am assuming you will want me to take the mani off, so when you drill it out, the shavings are removed...

There should be an adapter in the EGT package that screws into the manifold. There shouldn't be any welding involved. Also, to drill the hole just take out all the turbo bolts, then put some flat metal over the turbo inlet, and start the car. Then drill out your hole and you are set, you don't need to take off the manifold.

I have read people doing it that way. I would never weld bunge on the manifold.

Re: To Tube, or not to Tube..

ok. If I get this gauge hopefully this week, are you able to take care of it this weekend? I have off, so it would be helpful..of course, The gauge must arrive first.
