My GVR4's engine...

Well, I finally took my 2.3 out of my car, looks like my rod is screwed, where is a good place to get my rod re-sized?

Look the the THRUST BEARING?!?!?! it has worn all the way through!!!

as far as I can tell, the only damage was to the thrust bearing and to rod #3

I don't know what caused the failure....anyone know how to track down what happened? Had 5 qts in there, no leaks (so beautiful, a dry engine)

stock timing tables (yeah, i know) , 10 lbs of boost...one good launch..SC61 chipped for the 780's

i basically blame this on the lack of tuning/not running synthetic oil

Thoughts?

Re: My GVR4's engine...

I am pretty sure if the thrust bearing goes out, every bearing will be bad. (maybe not mains, but definately rod bearings).

Re: My GVR4's engine...

That would be crank walk. Do you have ARP main studs? Normally this is from misaligned mains. Maybe it was crap in your oil

IT was virgin clean oil, till you started the car.
I wouldn't blame conventional oil, its fine.

Re: My GVR4's engine...

Did you buy oversized/undersized bearings where it needed otherwise?

Re: My GVR4's engine...

I bought this engine quite a while ago for $2000(before I knew how to build engines), if i were to do this again, I would build it myself, so far every engine build I have done has been successful.

Yes, it has a turned crank, I did not know this until I bought this. I do feel kinda ripped off.

I will be asking the builder of this engine some more specific questions, and maybe we can come to an agreement.

I will not divulge his name to protect his reputation.

Re: My GVR4's engine...

Turned cranks seem to show up as more of a problem then they are worth. The 97+ 7bolts and 6g7x series thrust washer design seems to hold up a lot better, to bad our 6bolts can't use them.
