Was years ago on my truck. I was too busy fighting with the oil filter and trying to find a filter wrench small enough for it.

I still had the pan under it, so I didn't make a mess. Still sucked, though.

yeah... generally, my pan bolt goes in before i tackle the filter. Or, in the rare case I do both at the same time, the pan bolt goes in when the filter goes on. Gotta plug all them holes.

^^ I agree. I personally have never left the pan plug out either. I did forget to put the cap back on the valve cover once, but I noticed it about a minute after I started it and was checking for leaks.

The only stupid thing I did concerning oil changes was telling my friend how easy it was, and that he could do it himself. He had an old buick, and not only was the oil filter in the worst possible position, but he decided to do it on the street in front of our appartment....the oil filter was stuck, ended up jamming a screwdriver through it and tearing the thing to pieces trying to get it off....Gooooood 'ol fram quality

I left the cap off once, lost a quart, never again. And I agree spring needs to come.

Oh, I did leave the cap off of my 2G once. I drove from my house into downtown. When I got off on 4th street, I saw a wisp of smoke. I continued on to my office, and popped the hood. There was my oil cap, upside down, sitting on my exhaust manifold (no heat shield). I couldn't believe it hadn't melted! I picked it up with a rag, let it cool down, and put it back on.

ive never forgotten the bolt or filter or anything, but once in the old gf's car i forgot to put the cap back on. After driving about 2 hours we finally realized, it was only about a quart low haha.

In my high school auto class, kids would do the ol' double gasket on the filter. I was teaching the super noobs how to do oil changes and had to check everytime for double gasketing. 3 or 4 times I caught it before they filled it. On the subject of engine flushing, I like to use the scubbing bubbles. They scrub the crankcase, so you dont have to.
