Re: My other little project

Lol thanks, no not done yet. That's just an imaginary conversation... I'm sure it will happen at some time or another this summer though!

I was trimming the bumper for my FMIC and thought I might as well throw the hood, fenders, and headlights on (not bolted down or anything).

Re: My other little project

The only cool stuff I got done this weekend was I washed the car and trimmed the front bumper. I HATE when you see a nice looking car with the FMIC but then you get up close and the bumper is all hacked to shit. Not my style. It turns out that the material the bumper is made out of is so soft you can cut it with a razor blade... so that's just what I did. I probably have 2-3 hours into trimming it.

It's trimmed to contour with the shape of the IC tubing. You can see on the passenger side the finish of the tubing with the wrinkle coat. I haven't had a chance to do the coldside yet.

Re: My other little project

Thank you very much!

More work this week, this time I've been focusing mainly on the interior. It's pretty much ready to be put back together but I'm going to wait until the engine is in for good to put the dash in. Then it's just wiring the gauges and I'll be done.

I never did get any real good pictures of the interior so I figured I post some up.

These are the front and rear Granny's torque arm mounts:

The rear mount requires trimming the carpet a little and also the center console:

Here's the center console resting in place:

I put the rear back together as well (yes that's original 22 year old carpet/panels):

One problem I noticed (after bolting the roll bar in, of course) is that I can't open up the rear bins all of the way anymore.

This isn't really a problem on the driver's side since I can still fit shit in there, but charging the battery would be a bitch. So, I removed the hinges and put velcro in place. It looks good and is super functional - and you can't even tell there's velcro there at all. I tried magnets for a super clean look but couldn't get anything to hold in place. Maybe sometime later if it ends up bugging me that much!

AGM battery solidly mounted with 3/8" diameter bolts through the floor:

Re: My other little project

Looks like a really fun setup.

I bet it's not all that loud. A friend of mine had an f-body with a single and just a downpipe, I was amazed how quiet it actually was. The DP was aluminum too. The WG dump made out of aluminum didn't work so well though, that melted and he made a stainless one.

Re: My other little project

I love this car. I honestly thought an LS FD would be the best streetcar ever, but for some reason i love 80s sportscar styling haha. I think its the boxiness that does it.

Anyway, i might have to do something similar in the future! Keep up the good work.

Updates...

Finished cleaning up all of the turbo stuff:

Installed Kurt Urban LS water vapor system (helps keep cylinder 7 cool):

Moved the rad support about 6" forward. Now that's done, I can paint the bay this week:

Installed trim ring:

Re: My other little project

Moar.

Shroud and fan mounted up for the last time:

Trans cooler mounted to the radiator. I'm green to automatics so I don't know if this will cool enough or not. I'll just need to wait and see.

Re: My other little project

Very nice work, that new rad. support looks beefy!

Like the fan and shroud, wish I could fit a beast like that in my car.

That cooler should do just fine on the hwy, your issue will be at the track if anything. You might want to remote mount it so you can have a fan. But maybe your cooling fan will be enough too.

Re: My other little project

I should update this

I painted the engine bay a couple of weeks ago:

Before:

During:

After:

started getting the bay prepped for the motor and trans:

Cleaned up and mounted both headlight motors:

Mounted brake booster and catch can:

View from the back to the front:

And an overview:

I also got my alternator bracket mounted:

Radiator hoses (see quarter for size reference).

Since I was installing the engine/tranny by myself, lots of covering was necessary

Engine in and bolted down (trans is still resting on a jack as I have to move the mount ~6" forward):

Space with the relocated radiator support:

Space behind the motor... about 1-1.5"... perfect...

Intake installed:

Headers/turbo installed:

Relocated fusebox:

VERY tight fit... but it will be nice and snug:

Front view. Note the tranny cooler lines... they ended up being the perfect length.

IC tubing installed:

IC installed:

We started building my exhaust last night...

And then we got the fittings welded to the radiator and water pump. It only looks like I planned it to fit this well... believe me... I just got lucky LOL.

In other news, I'm selling the GSX if anyone is interested.

True love is the answer! This thing is one of my favorite project threads! Love it when I see someone so motivated and also be a perfectionist. They both coincide so well together and its kind of rare. Keep up the good work and I look forward to the next updates.
