how do you keep your rotors perdy

Well its too late to get them coated, but painting them sounds interesting. Theres a guy with a blue evo that works at like old country buffet or the mattres place or something, and I noticed his rotors looked like shit one day, and the next they were like brand new. I was contemplating using some steel wool, to try and remove the rust, but Idk if that's a good idea.
