Oh, I did leave the cap off of my 2G once. I drove from my house into downtown. When I got off on 4th street, I saw a wisp of smoke. I continued on to my office, and popped the hood. There was my oil cap, upside down, sitting on my exhaust manifold (no heat shield). I couldn't believe it hadn't melted! I picked it up with a rag, let it cool down, and put it back on.
