Re: WTB 2gb GSX, WRX, EVO
I'll sell you my DSM for 10k. Just tossing it out there. You could look at it, but no driving it til spring since it is in storage and there is salt on the roads.

Good catch! This is the exact reason I don't ever trust any kid who tells me about how great some absolutely dirt-cheap car is. Generally its on Craigslist and priced that way for a reason; people don't just give stuff away and dealers aren't in the business of losing out on potential income.
My point stands: You're going to need to spend most of that $12k to get a decent WRX.

Re: WTB 2gb GSX, WRX, EVO
A while ago there was a maroon 02 that had ~100k on it. I think it was priced at like $7500. But it had black varnish all over the rear seats and door panel.

Re: WTB 2gb GSX, WRX, EVO
I will have an evo 8 for sale after the snow season.
But it will be a little more than $12 k. Currently has 70k on the chassis. About 20-30k on a completely stock motor/trans. I bought it drive for winter and plan to sell it in the spring. I've had the car since 2005. Then sold it last march then bought it back.

Re: WTB 2gb GSX, WRX, EVO
Definitely wasn't the car I looked at, this one was maroon, no fart can, no dent in the fender...Let me know when you want to part with that evo, I will most likely be interested!

Re: WTB 2gb GSX, WRX, EVO
lol, got a feeling someone wants to go fast in an awd.
This thread = joke.
$7k for a wrx with 100k that you are gonna beat the piss out of, not a good move. Either get something older and cheaper or something newer that might be able to take the beating you will give it.
I'll build a 2.4 and sell you my car for 10k

Re: WTB 2gb GSX, WRX, EVO
That's some good info. I never knew that about the WRX/STi.
Gotta love being on a forum with people who know their stuff!

Re: WTB 2gb GSX, WRX, EVO
Im not really looking to go fast right now, when I registered for this forum I had a 2g gsx that I installed a 20g in with supporting mods. Now i'm in a senior in college at the university of Minnesota in Duluth in there software engineering program. I am looking for a car that will be a good base to build off of as soon as I start working and making BANK!

Re: WTB 2gb GSX, WRX, EVO
LOL @ the hopes, dreams, and expectations of a college student...I remember my senior year at UMD
My advice is to keep saving until you can afford a nice WRX, STI, or Evo. Also, keep researching everything and test-drive a few examples of each until you really get a feel for exactly what you want in a car. My wife has a modded '07 WRX and although it has a completely different feel than my Evo, it is still a very fun car to bomb around in. With a few mods she's making more power than stock Evo's and with Shane's (ecoli) custom dyno tune on it I have no reservations regarding its reliability. The Evo is a great choice if you're willing to give up some of that comfort and smoothness for raw performance. The Evo is much harsher and the interior has no where near as many creature-comforts, but when I get on the gas, hammer the brakes, or turn the wheels hard I forget all about that and immediately start grinning. I feel the STI falls somewhere between the WRX and Evo and is almost a compromise of the two; some of the WRX niceties and 80% of the Evo's raw performance characteristics.

Re: WTB 2gb GSX, WRX, EVO
haha, I went on a paid internship for axiomtek, I made enough money to pay off all my college loans, and have some left over....software engineering is a terribly hard major but the pay out is well worth it.

Re: WTB 2gb GSX, WRX, EVO
BANK? LOL good luck man I say save your money, buy a cheap car (even if it is a DSM) and start looking for a job like yesterday. Otherwise you'll wind up roaming europe and finding yourself, blowing all your money and paying for rent with a credit card until you get a part-time gig to start paying the bills.
Reality: its tough, but a good thing to deal with.

that sounds like my after graduation plan. I will be getting my bachelors in mechanical engineering from the U at the end of this semester, but definitely dont plan on starting to work anytime soon.

Re: WTB 2gb GSX, WRX, EVO
Thanks for the Advice Kracka, I just might do that! I live close enough to school that I don't need a car, or I could take out a loan....Sounds like you love your evo though!

Sounds like you should wait and then pick up a 'mostly stock' IX. That'd be a great base to work from. There are times that I wish I went that way.
