Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

Initial Black numbers from the 3rd tester...

Here is what they posted:
Initial update,,,

17psi with 93pump--- 382hp..... this is going to be fun.

Got too late to continue on... A fresh set of plugs and back to the dyno we go!!

Spool-up was better than I anticipated,,, I think we touched 17psi @ 3800 or so,,, I'll post a log shortly.
First thing I noticed was having to add additional fuel from the previous FpRed tune to keep afr's identical,, a very good sign of things to come.

If the car still has a MAF, there is no reason they should have had to add fuel, unless they fixed something else or the old tune was screwed up. The MAF will compensate for a more airflow like a bigger turbo. You can usually put cams into an Evo and the A/Fs will be pretty much exactly the same even if it gains 40whp.

I am, but I can't stay long...I was going to take a long lunch...I need to stop by MAP quick and grab the rod bearings then I have those, my new SSP MC (want my old one ) and the SSP relay pack to drop off.

I will probably take an hour and a half for lunch or so around 1:30. What time you guys going there?

Hmmm, true that. I am pretty sure it is still on the stock ECU. Perhaps they did a 3.5" intake though in anticipation of the MAF maxing.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

Danny was kind enough to check the bearing on the rod that snapped, it was all good...so it was not an oiling issue at all. Just power, it happens. Makes me feel good though, so mystery solved.

Stopped up at DB (obviously, since the above statement)...dropped off the new cosworth rod bearings (now DB can start putting in the new rods/pistons and get the show on the road) my new SSP master cylinder rev 2 and the SSP relay pack which replaces a bunch of relays that can possibly fail.

They changed around some stuff and have a new engine building room where the office used to be, its nice. I got to see the new AMS spec JE pistons too...Scheides/Kracka/Spaz were all there too by the way for Kracka's tune...Scheides suggest i take some pics of the pistons so here you go...

Nothing too crazy, but I love to see new stuff

My head is basically done, they had to get a few new shim buckets so they are still waiting on that, shouldn't be too much longer. The tune on the 6th of August is optimistic, but you never know, we will see what happens next week, should be lots of progress hopefully.

Hmmm, think thats about it for updates.

I wonder if they are any different? lol.

Given that your engine was removed from the car, I'd put your odds at zero. Unless workload has improved at DB.

I bought my car at a good time last year: August. I think that skewed my expectations.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

I asked Danny and he said maybe, it all depends on if they can work undisturbed...that is the real problem.

Right now I am just hoping for a mid august finish date. I've accepted the 6th will be tough, not zero chance though I don't think because they have two weeks and it should only be like 2 solid days of work to finish if they were completely undisturbed banging it out (which won't happen). Like I said, we will just have to wait and see.

The dishes seem to be deeper on the AMS ones. I bet they are similar but I am sure they aren't the same.

Shane had mentioned when installing mine that the dishes seemed pretty deep. If AMS went further then the odds of valves hitting are awful low.

Like I said, 'unless workload has improved'. It's getting to be late July but I don't know when the downhill slide begins. I have only been a part of this world for 11 months, not even a whole year.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

I would think someone would've noticed by now if they were the same piston, lol. There are plenty of tuners that have used both I am sure...but who knows, it wouldn't surprise me. I am pretty sure these are the same setups both shops used for their evo 8/9 pistons.

Either way they should both be good for all the power we plan on making

You should show up at an event one of these days. I'll have you take my car for a spin. I'm pretty impressed with the last few mods...driveshaft bushings and the alignment/corner balance.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

I have avoided going to events just because it just makes me miss the car even more, lol. Not that reading forums helps but that helps pass time at work

When you going up to DB next? I will be dropping the FPblack off there soon if you are dropping your car off up there, coordination perhaps.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

Still haven't gotten a tracking number yet, they charged my credit card though, so I assume FP has shipped me the black

I also emailed Shane today curiously about breaking in the motor when the time comes, what kind of boost levels we can run...MAP sensor stuff...etc etc.
After one of his responses I couldn't help but type, "just curious, did they start on the rods/pistons yet?" I was going to wait until friday or monday to ask, but since i was already exchanging emails with shane i figured i would eek that in.

He replied...
All the clearances on your motor have been measured and checked and the rings filed, the rods/pistons are going in now. We should have the head back today or tomorrow.

So it sounds like it is moving along perfectly! They move good once they have all the parts I guess, lol

same here, chief. hehe. I guess this is my official call-out.

The dyno won't tell us who will win or lose, keep that in mind.
