Thanks! Absolutely I will keep driving it. I don't make enough $$ to have a $30k 'fun-only' car although that would be very fun some day!

It's a mitsu? Hehe, like what? Look up a few posts (by me) to see what all is going in it.

yea, ARPs. I am iffy on re-torquing them after my incident with my last car, so I am going to use a fresh set when I torque the head to the block for the last time.

I'm glad to see them be useful for something. I'm still crying over what the "incidentals" set me back to pull that head a second time.

I'll give you a $10 rental fee, set something up with Hollyweird so they get included with the torque plate as it travels to lonely, sad, broke individual after lonely, sad, broke individual.

LOL, you rented the plate from Hollywood? Thats funny.
I guess I assumed MAP would just have one or would've bought one.

Re: beaterX project thread
Yes, people have ran upwards of 45psi on them so far, still holding fine. I'm running them at 37ish with no problems.
The evo's heads don't have lifting problems like DSM's do thankfully.

Re: beaterX project thread
Rods come in wednesday, motor is done machining and being assembled.
I think all gaskets are in from mitsu.
Head will *hopefully* be done thursday or friday, I have my fingers mega crossed! Cams, valves, valvesprings, headstuds, and a new disc for the act 6-puck are in and ready to rock.
Saturday night I sold my stock-ish FMIC, gonna ship it out tomorrow. I was kinda freaking out about what to do but finally a deal came through for me:
Buschur Race FMIC. 4.5 x 18 x 12 Garret core, 972ci--this is one of the biggest and best flowing cores on the market. I will have to do a wee bit of grinding to get it in but I will have one less excuse for pump gas powa now. This is step 1 to a bigger/later project I had originally planned to do over the winter involving the LICP, TB, and IM that has now been put off for a long, long time. Stock stuff will have to suffice I guess

Honestly the biggest advantage I have over your build is time of year; your car broke at the absolute worst time. Aside from some parts being on backorder, there haven't been too many delays other than me making decisions.
I did the math this morning, the new core vs the old core is 972ci vs 648ci, it is 150% the size of my old core but the same frontal area.

That's a big core, haha.
Yea, 6 weeks for a shortblock sucked. Delays are great for saving money though

Re: beaterX project thread
From garret's site I think it's p/n 703522-6004, supports 785hp and weighs 19.8lbs. Add some endtanks and I'm sure it'll be closer to 25. Or its the PTE core 051-1132 same specs and supports 975hp.
Either way it is a nice upgrade and will put concerns about the other intercooler to rest.

Sounds like a very practical spring dyno day goal to aim for.

Re: beaterX project thread
Usually you want a core that is rated for 50-100% more power than what you actually plan on making at the wheels, if you want it to not be a flow restriction and actually cool worth a crap. I have never had a car in with too big of an intercooler, but see cars with too small every other day.
