That was my first thought but in the small chance that it was coming from the block I decided against it. Any sealants I could find all say that they use solids in them and are safe for all things with the exception of oil. Even with the small chance that something solid from the little bit of sealant I'd use to seal the leak is too much of a risk for me to be taking with something I will work on whether it's my own motor or one for someone else.

Re: Modern Automotive Performance
The tranny had every bolt that held it to the motor and everything else. It was missing a dowel pin. Cause when that was notice that it was missing one. A dowel pin was put in the right place everything was reinstalled and never broke a bolt after that. If the dowel pin are there for just alignment. Why would map say anything about the dowel pins not being in goodharts car. Just a question. How would that cause just the front tires to turn. Just saying.

How would a dowel pin cause a bolt to break? Thank about it.. A dowel pin has no head to it, therefore it does not keep the motor from separating from the tranny. It only stops it from rotating against the block. You could have had crappy bolts. Overtightened bolts. etc. there are a million reasons for breaking bolts, and believe me, a dowel pin is not one of them.
From what i gathered, they werent blaming the dowel pins for the wheels not rotating. That would just be stupid.
Anyone know where said tranny is now? Does goodhart still have this.

Re: Modern Automotive Performance
Basically they're saying that and the shifter was messed up, so other things probably were as well; that's how I took it anyways.
This goes for any of the issues stated in this thread, including the guy that got banned out of the deal: If the situation really was as he said, then I see nothing wrong with posting it here for everyone to see. If he was just being unreasonable, then he was the one in the wrong. It's as simple as that IMO, although we have no way of truly knowing what all went on.

Re: Modern Automotive Performance
I haven't dealt with MAP in a while but they've always been good to me.
They did mess up once and had my MAFT drop shipped to my house before I paid for it. (only had deposit)
Luckily for them I'm a pretty honnest guy nowadays

Oh, and by the way, it was me that deleted your first post, not Scheides

Re: Modern Automotive Performance
I've dealt with map a lot. I've only bought parts from them since I do all my own work but never had any real problems. the only problem I've ever had was when I ordered some k-sport coil overs they said i'd get them in a week but it took a little over a month. k-sport had some parts on back order so it was in no way maps fault. i'd do business with them again in the future if I ever get another sports car.

Well, the transmission prior to this one turned all four wheels, and the one after it did also.

Granted one wheel is going one direction and the other going the opposite direction. Which is normal for our cars. Im really hoping this wasnt the way you checked that only the front tires were rotating.
Did you put the car in the air on all four jackstands and put the car in gear while running? Did you put it on an AWD Dyno? Did you do a smokey burnout? Were you sure the Tcase wasnt messed up?
A little description of how you came to the conclusion that the tranny was messed would be helpful in this situation.
|
I put the all four corners of the car on jackstands, put the car in 1st and gave it gas. Only the front wheels turned. Like I said, the previous tranny turned all four, and the one after that did also. That is how I know the tranny was the culprit. On a second gear pull it would break loose and torque steer just like a FWD car also, I didn't have nearly enough power at the time to be able to do that with AWD. (250HP, 250 TQ at the time)

Yep, sitting in the garage at my Parent's place in Isanti. After all of this, I kinda want to dig into it this weekend if I get a chance.

We did try to work it out at the time, this isn't the first it's been talked about. This thread came up in a "feedback" kind of format, so I gave my feedback, that is all.

Really glad to hear you didnt just have the Fronts up. But it would be really interesting to see what the culprit is.
Have you driven the car since taking out the tranny? Also were you sure the Tcase was good? (which hopefully you will soon find out if havent already when you put the TRE trans in)
I know this seems off topic trying to figure out what happened to your tranny. but it would be very interesting to find out the true fault of something like this, instead of saying "This is broke so it MUST be the vendors fault."

Have I driven it since this tranny? yes. First thing I did was put it on jackstands and see if all four wheels moved. haha And they did move.

Bump, the OP asked me to change the thumbs down to a thumbs up!
Also, rocket2g, who came out of nowhere with his rant, has disappeared and won't respond to my emails.
