Another manifold test coming soon! FiD-turbo vs MAP
So I got some AMAZING results with MAP's manifold last summer: http://forums.evolutionm.net/evo-x-d...ting-evox.html
Before that ever happened, I committed to MrC at FiD-turbo.com to doing a similar test after several friends worked with them and I saw the quality of craftsmanship and amazing numbers on the CT9A platform:
http://forums.evolutionm.net/evo-dyn...-manifold.html
I've done a ton of work with MAP as they are local to me (literally minutes from my house) but end of the day I am open to trying different parts combos on my car to try and hopefully seek out the best of the best. MAP builds a beautiful manifold but end of the day I'm an independent guy doing independent testing for the good of the community. I talked to them about this and hopefully they take this in stride and we can all learn from these test results!
Anyways, on to the pics!
Initial impressions:
-easier bolt access around turbo flange than MAP mani
-MAP mani has some of the runner-to-flange transitions welded so they can port in smooth transitions
-portwork on MAP mani looks smoother and more shiny
-welding patterns on both manis are different. I'm not an expert at welding but both look high-quality and STRONG.
FiD mani is now ceramic coated (sorry I didn't get pics yet) and the car will be on the dyno at DB Performance this week (I hope!). Stay tuned!

Geez, is that what the exhaust ports on the X head look like? The flange holes transition looks like absolute crap in the pics, hopefully it looks better in person. But in the end, the dyno doesn't lie, so that's what it's really about anyways. I think MAP's going to win this one hands down.

Yup, they are square just like the flange. Like I said, the MAP mani wins when it comes to smooth transitions from the flange to the tubing and back.

That might be kinda important.

Indeed. They are not insanely different though, I wouldn't say the work on the FiD mani is garbage or anything. We shall see once it comes time to hit the dyno!

True. I found a dyno comparison on evom, looks like it makes 15whp more than a ported stock mani, apparently it does better than I would've thought.

Small and ugly isn't always a great combo either I saw this manifold first hand, while it would be acceptable by most standards it simply isn't finished to the degree we require. It will be interesting to see the results regardless.

Hopefully this isn't getting off topic at all, but did you guys ever test your mani again aside from Scheides car? I ask because you seemed to think at one point that the dyno runs were started at different times making it look laggy? It looked like it lost 400rpms or maybe 300, but enough to question since you did use 1.25" runners which should be minimal lag.

Re: Another manifold test coming soon! FiD-turbo vs MAP
Is the manifold on the car currently a ported stocker or a tubular unit also?

Re: Another manifold test coming soon! FiD-turbo vs MAP
My friend Tom down here installed a MAP tubular mani + Blitz intake manifold + AMS downpipe and hardly lost any spool at all on the stock turbo. Let me go look for dyno charts...

Scheides currently has the MAP tubular.

Those gains are ok...but for the price paid...OUCH, not great gains at all, lol.
But I like that he didn't lose spool...might just have to get a MAP one after all...that was my only concern as a few other ones I like such as the CBRD didn't lose any spool really, similar to what you show.

Peak WHP gains weren't impressive, but the midrange and 7k+ RPM gains were. He's happy with the exhaust manifold for the price, but I know he does regret buying the $$$ Blitz IM (he did get the AMS DP for free though so he can't complain about that).

I was more so thinking along the lines that he could've upgraded to a BBX lite or something for half the price as all that stuff and lost minimal spool and gained a ton more power/torque in all parts of the range

Re: Another manifold test coming soon! FiD-turbo vs MAP
Valid point, he bought a Green shortly after.
Pretty noticeable hit to spool though.
