Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

Downpipe is done (at map, being made I mean), manifold will be done porting next monday/tuesday I think and then the following monday/tuesday the turbo, manifold and downpipe will be ready for pickup after they get back from coating. Woo.

Working on the pump right now, but missing some pieces.

See this:

I sold the connector last year with my wally 400. Does anyone have a part number for something similar at like Napa or something?

Hopefully I don't get in trouble for asking this I'll probably head there tomorrow to poke around but figured I would ask as a a lot of you guys are quick with finding these things.

Here is the rough size:

Once I get this piece I can finish up the pump install and start in on intake mani next weekend I hope along with TB fuel rail and injectors etc.

I'd search electronic stores like acme or radio shack. Otherwise Grainger or McMaster or any other online electronic component place would have them available to ship.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

Pump install is done.

Picking up turbo, manifold and downpipe tomorrow from MAP. They just got back from being all ported/coated. Also they have a bunch of OEM stuff that has gone missing through switching setups so much, oil feed line, return line, water feed, return etc and a bunch of gaskets and banjo bolts and what not.

I am out of town this weekend for memorial day but I am hoping the next weekend I will get to doing the install, maybe at least get the intake mani/tb and exhaust stuff buttoned up.

Hopefully start tuning by the 2nd week in June.

PS. If anyone is bored and wants to help get the x off murlostands you are welcome to come I'll be grilling out and beers/booze is always provided. Targeting Saturday 31st right now. Maybe start at 11am or so.

I thought they did all that stuff in house, do they send it out now?
Also, I'm confused on "they" are missing stuff, are those parts you need to source yet?

Good luck getting it back together and tuned. And the grass is always greener, you'll find downsides to every platform

The porting is in house, the coating is outsourced.

Which missing stuff do you mean? I am confused now on your confusion Lol.

I Understand exactly, however it feels more like the end with the never ending issues or pennies being thrown at it.

I think you are right sir.

If anything, if I get bored, I think it will be time to part ways with the car and move onto something v8 powered.

As soon as my car is tuned and ready for racing I have a potential buyer coming to take a look at my car.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

Sorry for the crappy photo. Made great progress today. I got my fuel pump finally actually into the car and rewired that (hardwired) and cleaned up the routing etc. Also got all the intake side stuff on, mani, tb and fuel system etc. Just need to order some nuts/bolts and few soft lines and hopefully one more install session and we will be starting the evo!

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

So a bunch of the OEM stuff was backordered so I didn't get it back together last week. Anyway, that stuff showed up this week:

Then this showed up today, the final piece, Greddy FMIC (shiny, I like it haha):

Maybe I am mis-remembering but this seems quite a bit beefier than my AMS core, dunno. Anyway, it looks awesome and should work nicely.

Getting close, can't wait to drive this again finally.

Greddy is usually tube/fin design where AMS was probably bar/plate. Parts are good, get that thing together!

Copy that, didn't think the different designs made that much of a difference in sizing, but maybe.

Trying to get it running again, just zero time with work and travel for work and then cabin time with the gf.

My buddy has my turbo/manifold, he brought it to his dealer this week to assemble it with proper studs. He said he might help out and stop by and toss the turbo/mani in, so that would really help. Then its downpipe, exhaust, new FMIC, piping and intake and few odds and ends (oil change, coolant top off etc) then base map for new injectors and start. So close, yet so far .

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

Nice looking intercooler! I'm sure it is much beefier than the AMS, the AMS FMIC is mid-sized I'd call it. The GReddy and AGP are the big boys of Evo X intercoolers.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

Almost done:

We got started late yesterday, but I did put in my new kozmic catch can with the revised drain, so I can remote drain it. And then we found out MAP gave me the wrong banjo bolts for the water return/feed to the turbo so thankfully the dealer had them but that took a while. Then we removed a bunch of shit to be able to put the turbo/manifold in there at once.

Anyway, we made good progress and got all the "hard" shit on there and now its just buttoning it up. I will tackle this throughout the week, a good chunk of it. So hopefully in the next two weeks I will be driving it. July 4th weekend is kind of a throw away so hopefully the following week is startup.
