It is true the dodge wont hold as well, but the jeeps hold, so thats a plus. Just have to keep the dodge for 10 years lol.

Re: Time to replace the Envoy

I agree the Dodge will probably depreciate quicker. But on that same note nothing is going to be immune from depreciation. The Yukon I test drove was a barely used 2014 SLT that seemed to be pretty much fully loaded. It was priced at $34k. Seemed similarly equipped to this new 2014, so it probably had a similar price point new ($50k). That's some serious depreciation. The Durango's I'm looking at are in the low 30's brand new.

I also agree the Jeeps would probably hold their value better too. I just really like the 3rd row and overall increased length of the Durango's better, and at a slightly lower price point than the Jeep too. I do love those GC's though Peter, would be a sweet ride if you picked one up!

And oddly, the GMCs have a higher rate of depreciation than the Tahoes, despite being the same vehicle.

Interesting.

Bobby actually I wanted to talk to you, I have a coworker looking to buy a brand new Colorado. She went to the Chevy dealer in Anoka, got to financing and started to feel like they were being sleezy and giving her the 'stupid girl' t yesterdayreatment, so she decided to leave. Told her I knew someone who could hopefully be fair to her. I think she's going to try looking at one in Forest Lake to see if they treat her better. You work tomorrow, got a number I can give her?

And also, let me know if you get a line on any used 2014 Durango or GC for a killer deal. Or a Lexus GX460, need to test drive one of those yet.

Re: Time to replace the Envoy

Here's what I looked at the other day for reference sake.

Used 2014 Yukon SLT, White, $34k
http://www.rosevillebuickgmc.com/Veh...-MN/2346438733

Used 2014 Durango Limited, Silver, $34k
http://dealers.aultec.com/v/?object=...&DealerId=5951

New 2014 Durango SXT, White, $34k (on sale, not the internet price)
http://www.rosevillechryslerjeepdodg...dcf765125c.htm

New 2014 Durango SXT (Rallye), black, $35k (on sale, not the internet price)
http://www.rosevillechryslerjeepdodg...dce0852d6d.htm

The Rallye I really liked how they look from the outside. The used Limited was nice since it had sunroof, leather, flat screens for people in back, and the led eyebrow lights. Not sure what I'd buy now, either Rallye or Limited...

Those are all super nice! Id go with whatever you feel drives the best and the style you like most. Otherwise very comparable.

Re: Time to replace the Envoy

The limited will be easier to sell and likely have a slightly higher value when it's time to sell. Generally a good idea to buy the top package when it comes to resale. Specially when the price comparison looks like your post above. Also, someone else took the first depreciation hit on the limited, you would take the hit on the new car.

I like the Durangos, that would be my choice for a full-size SUV w/3rd row seating and a decent tow rating.

We have a denali and a Durango (2003's) and hands down the Chevy is better. I am always fixing the Durango and we hardly drive it. It is going to be sold soon.

Sounds a lot like like my 03 GM. Just last week I put $450 into it, then $100 the next day, then $150 2 days later. $700 total in 4 days.

Keep in mind, I just went to a local dealer to check them out and compare them since I really hadn't seen them first hand much before. I'm not buying any of those ones. Whatever I do buy, it will likely be a Used 2014 w/ 20k miles kind of thing. So if I got an SXT, it would likely be in the $29k range. I'm just going to keep a close eye on Cars.com and wait for a good deal to pop up over the next few months.

Still want to test out a GX460 though for comparison. I think I'm taking the VW off my list since it does seem like it could fall under the typical Euro umbrella of maintenance suckage.

Re: Time to replace the Envoy

That Yukon is a bare bones SLT, doesn't even have heated seats, so it wasn't $50k new. I definitely wouldn't buy leather without heated seats anyways.

For reference on these newer styles, I've had almost zero problems with mine and I'm approaching 180k miles. I've done nothing but oil changes, changed all fluids at 150k(diffs, xfer case and tranny) and brakes. Even has the original shocks, although I'll be swapping those out for some factory take offs here on Christmas break. It's the most reliable car I've ever owned. I think that's why they hold their value so well, after the initial first year depreciation hit of course.

I think that's from the style of them. The 99-06 Yukons had better resale than the Tahoes, and the 2007-2014 Tahoes have better resale than the Yukons, minus the Denali. They did restyle the Yukon in 2010 I believe, they looked a little funny at first. Just comes down to which one is better looking.

Yea that SLT seems pretty loaded to me, besides nav, rear entertainment and bling rims.

It really comes down to B's moto, to each their own.

Re: Time to replace the Envoy

So something kind of like this might be something I'd like. Used 2014 SXT with Rallye appearance package (gives it similar look as an RT). Appears to have the upgraded stereo. The one I drove had heated seats and heated steering wheel all activated via the touchscreen, not sure how to tell yet if they all have that with the upgraded touchscreen. Anyway, $29k barely used.
