Re: GheyrodX - bigger, fatter, gheyer!
Besides for some routine annual maintenance before the Texas All-State cruise this coming weekend, I was able able to add a few fun new upgrades!
MR 2-piece front brake rotors:
MR BBS wheels:
The wheels came already mounted with some barely used Nitto NeoGen tires; I'm not all too impressed with them, but I may just leave them on for now since they were basically free. They're a high-performance all-season tire and you definitely realize the A/S portion when you push them hard in a corner. They howl very loudly, but at least they break-away in a smooth and controller fashion. I was going to install the new Girodisc S/S "Orange" pads along with the rotors, but my current StopTechs still had enough meat left where I decided to reuse them.

Re: GheyrodX - bigger, fatter, gheyer!
If anyone cares, between the wheels and rotors, I shaved off about 20 pounds of rotational mass.

Re: GheyrodX - bigger, fatter, gheyer!
Nice pickup on the rims and 2 piece rotors!
I am closing in on 40k miles and am guessing I will need some new rotors soon, but I think I will go with the girodisc ones.
Just curious if you don't mind sharing, what do the MR ones go for?

Re: GheyrodX - bigger, fatter, gheyer!
I got them for free and paid $15/ea to get them turned at O'Reilly! Normally they sell for quite a bit, but a guy here was convinced they were junk after 30k miles (one set of factory brake pads). After turning they still measure well within minimum thickness spec.

Re: GheyrodX - bigger, fatter, gheyer!
Even if the friction rings were worn out, you can buy replacement rings for about half the cost of a new set!

Awesome, always nice to get free upgrades. Notice any difference in how the car feels from the lost weight? New wheels look good too, my favorite style of wheel.

Re: GheyrodX - bigger, fatter, gheyer!
The steering is definitely lighter. The car seems a little more responsive from a stop, but that could just be psychological.

Re: GheyrodX - bigger, fatter, gheyer!
Blah blah blah...more of the same. I finished up my 60k maintenance items on Wednesday by changing the coolant and replacing the factory serpentine belt and pullies with Gates brand parts. I'm pretty sure the OEM and Gates pullies are identical; the markings are all the same and they're both made in Canada. Us X guys replace these with the belt since they're made of plastic; after 58k miles my OEM ones still looked 99% fine, but I already had them sitting here and at only $9/each I figured better safe than sorry.
In a bit here I'll be taking my car in to the dealership for it's final warranty coverage inspection and an alignment. I've noticed some oil seepage on the underside of my engine and the front axle boots have been leaking grease (not cracked, but it appears the clamps aren't tight enough which is common).
All in all, not bad for a car with nearly 59k miles of daily-driven abuse!
