Yeah, he's the only one who thinks so at this point. Just to much to do, and buy at this point.

well, not so bad as you'll get another chance at RA.

Re: Want to race for real??
Car is starting to come along. What tires would everyone suggest? I think for this season, I'd lean more toward longevity over max traction(relatively speaking of course).

Re: Want to race for real??
pretty much everyone who is competitive uses dunlop direzza z1 star specs. Some people use falken azenis, but we blew out the treads one on in 45 mins, so we won't buy them again.

Re: Want to race for real??
We run the Star Specs for tires as well. They're great. They stay consistent no matter how hot or cold they are, they don't get greasy, and they wear surprisingly well for the performance they give.
We tested our car today at Raceway, nothing fell off so I'd say it went well.

How do you get by AIV with that setup? How do you get to test there?

Re: Want to race for real??
Starting with the Chevette as a chassis helps us out a lot. According to the rules, if you use a shitbox chassis, it doesn't get counted for the swap. We got zero penalty laps at the Chumpionship with the current drivetrain.
Our team owner knows the owners of Raceway, so we get to test their for free as long as they're there.

The engine, turbo, intercooler, transmission, ecu, wiring harness, motor mounts, etc aren't worth over $500?

Re: Want to race for real??
Not if you find the correct AIV documents for beat to hell Eclipses.
I know you're questioning this all honestly and I don't mind but were you at the Chumpionship? We weren't the fastest car there, by far. We finished 19th because we didn't break down much. We got destroyed on the road course segments because our brakes sucked. The car sounds badass fast on paper because we know what these motors can do for very little money but our car isn't that. It actually has a smaller than stock turbo because I was worried about tearing up the rearend.
I think our car follows both the spirit and letter of the rules. We are not fielding a car with an unfair performance advantage.

Re: Want to race for real??
hey, i think its a creative swap and I like it when people try something different. You worked really hard on that thing. It's sure as hell better than just getting an E36, doing nothing, and stomping on people. Your car sounds crazy and badass.
I think though, you're going to be subject to the same insane scrutiny/trash talk that we think we'll get if we ever make the podium. Since we have a different motor, turbo added and everything. Oh well, hopefully we survive with our necks if that ever happens.

Re: Want to race for real??
What turbo are you running? T25? 13G?
The car looks fast in that Raceway video. I assumed something was wrong with the car at Iowa.
May 5th dyno day, if it lives through RA?

Re: Want to race for real??
13t actually. I got it off CL and I think it was from a used jdm engine. The car has always ran perfectly, we just don't push it. We shift at 5500 and keep the boost low. We still have the stock Chevette rear end in it, which was built for a 80hp engine. I think the lack of torque we make helps but we still don't want to push it.
Completely agree on doing something different than just running a BMW. We will never hit the podium, as we don't have the crew required to make it. We just want to pass a bunch of cars and have fun. I'm sure a few people look at our car oddly when they see the turbo but it's not as crazy as it seems. Besides, having a big motor is a very small portion of going fast in these races but you guys know that. Maybe our years of experience racing has taught us that other stuff and that's why our car looks so fast?

Re: Want to race for real??
well you shouldn't be having any problems with braking now!
Also, you guys were pretty fast on the oval if i remember correctly. I hated driving that.

Re: Want to race for real??
Yeah, we were fast on there for two reasons. We didn't use the brakes on the oval at all and Pops and I have two decades of oval experience under our belts.
Also, we did have brake issues during our test. For some reason the RF was hanging up to the point that it locked up. I think a chunk of debris is in the line, preventing fluid from flowing back to the master but allowing fluid past when the pedal is pressed. We'll have to disassemble it to see what's up.

Re: Want to race for real??
Yeah. Did you run there last year? I've been to the track once to watch the One Lap of America Galant VR4 run there. Dreaming about blasting up the uphill straightaway in a turbo car more and more the closer we get to the race.

Re: Want to race for real??
Well, I was watching Porsches and GTRs when I was there last so that's my frame of reference. I'm sure I'll be really disappointed by reality.

Re: Want to race for real??
ha, i'm hoping the improved turbo spool we have this year will help us have the grunt to get up that hill quicker.
