Re: Rebuilding motor, need suggestions
You can get a 2.3l shortblock from map for that. An evo stage 1 2.3l shortblock is $2450 without a new front case/bse. If you add a new front case it will add $400 to it

Re: Rebuilding motor, need suggestions
dont take shortcuts though, not saying you need front case/bse but theres a reason a lot guys go that route, plus new oil pan, oil pump, water pump, might as well do timing belt service as he has 115k, all the new fluids. shit just a oil change is 50-60 dollars if you add in the filter. it doesnt take long to spend an ass ton of money thats for sure. you have to love this hobby or its the worst investment ever lol

Re: Rebuilding motor, need suggestions
Why would you buy a new oil pan? And the front case is generally only replaced on high mileage DSM's, it's not necessary on a 60k mile Evo.

Re: Rebuilding motor, need suggestions
A lot of Evo guys get suckered into buying an oil pan they don't need to buy. Unless the motor spun a bearing I see no reason to buy a new oil pan.

Re: Rebuilding motor, need suggestions
I wouldn't call it suckered. When you're building a $5k setup I would consider ~$175 as cheap insurance if there's a risk there may be contaminants trapped in the old one. Do it once, do it right. Now if the previous engine is still running perfectly and shows no signs of oil contamination then I agree, don't bother with a new pan. Same with the oil cooler.

Re: Rebuilding motor, need suggestions
Heck my engine basically ate itself and I didn't get a new oil pan. I went off of the discretion of map and their engine builder. I said if they thought it was best to replace it then replace it. They said I should be fine so I reused it. Mine is a talon though so I don't know how the pans differ.

Re: Rebuilding motor, need suggestions
Evo's have more baffles, and tend to trap metal shavings a lot more.

Re: Rebuilding motor, need suggestions
So, when doing shit like this taking note of the *actual* numbers is really important. Up to you if you want to rebuild it but I'd start thinking about it sooner than later before you break something else.
