I'm betting you will. We'll see though, I plan to work on it through most of the day today.

I still have to do a 4 bolt swap....

Re: Project Winter Beater

Got the trans in, but eventually figured out when I couldn't get the slave on that I have the fwd motor mount bolted to the block. No wonder it was so damn hard to get the trans mount on....

Anyways, I snapped a couple pics:

Re: Project Winter Beater

Started taking the wire wheel to my passenger side rocker and it's not looking good:

To be honest, all the metal along the rocker is weak and needs to be replaced in my opinion. I have not tried the driver's side with the wire wheel yet, but on the passenger's side I could cut right through the metal with the wire wheel end on a drill. Not a happy person but what are ya going to do?

The good thing is they both run...

I cleaned out my garage for the first time since tearing into the Laser. Snapped a pic of the Talon from off my deck:

Re: Project Winter Beater

Drove it to school today to fab up the rear section of my exhaust. Just need to get a muffler for it and some hangers welded on. Also put it up on a lift and started replacing the inner tie-rods because the stock ones have the jam nuts seized. Also found a driver's side axle with good threads so I can put a nut on it. (thanks Zach)

Felt boost with it for the first time today after getting the CAS adjusted. I need to finish the exhaust though because the knock sensor is picking up the exhaust from the open downpipe....hahahaha

That really sucks. One of the main reasons I've stuck with FWD for so long. My shell is mint.

My Laser stayed mostly rust free because it never came with the side skirts. The rest of this car is good as far as the floor pans and what not. It's only until you get under the side skirts and look into the rear wheel wells that it's bad. The side skirts are really bad at trapping everything in there.

I'm saddened by it, but whatever. I'll still patch it, even if it doesn't look 100%. If it seals and it's strong, that's all I care about because I'm going with a 94 side and rear end conversion so those side skirts will cover the whole lower side. Not to mention I get a better looking ass....

Re: Project Winter Beater

Drove the car back to my apartment! Feels really good to drive it again. Need to bleed the brakes some more, but for the most part it was really solid. Fired up first try.

Twack took a video or 2 I think when he followed me home. Open downpipe ftw!

Re: Project Winter Beater

Took it into school today to swap in the 4 bolt rear.

Need to replace the heater hoses as they piss coolant pretty good when it heats up. Need to set base ignition timing as well, route a vacuum line for the wastegate, blah blah. It's all mostly little things.

Cars looking good!

You sure about the knock from just the open down pipe? I've ran open down pipe on my car since I've got it running and it doesn't knock. Maybe yours hits the oil pan or something or it really is knocking?

Thanks man! Honestly, if it was hitting something I couldn't tell anyway. It's so loud..

It might be really getting knock, I'll have to check it out when I get my logger back from Zach. I feel it was phantom knock because it cleared up quick and pulled good in 1st. It's nothing that worries me at the moment until I actually hook the logger up.

Re: Project Winter Beater

Did the first prototype of my exhaust today and it fits, but needs some tweaks. Never mind the shitty welds too, I had large gaps to fill and it was my first time welding in over 4 years...so go ahead and laugh it up.

I was also able to install my inner tie rods, but I need to align it next week because I didn't have enough time at school today. I do have a current interior pic, however:

Re: Project Winter Beater

Snapped a few more pics today:

I wanted to get it on the alignment rack at school but some kid was lost and had his Buick on all day. So instead I went about setting idle and boosting around at wastegate for a little bit. I need to revisit my ignition timing as it hesitates durring spool but opens up when it hits. I think it might be a little bit too far advanced. I also need to do a boost leak test on it.

Re: Project Winter Beater

My friend brought down the 94 rear bumper and tail lights today. So tonight after work I put them on. I'm hoping with a good wash and then a buffing and wax my car will match the bumper better.

No TSi here...

Re: Project Winter Beater

The car has developed what feels like fuel cut at about 4k. Drives around perfect until I start going more than 50% throttle and the boost goes above 12 psi.

I've checked:

-Plugs
-Mafs
-fuel system for leaks
-Boost leaks (none)

On my datalogger the only thing that looks fishy to me is the injector duty cycles go from 20-30% all the way to 80 something percent right before it cuts out.

As of right now, I want to say the pump might be taking a crap? It's an evo 9 unit that I replaced in the winter time a couple weeks before swapping motors.
