Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
I just noticed that someone added hotdog crank polishing to the tags...sigh. So many lame tags haha.
On a side note, I spoke with RC engineering and they are going to test my DW injectors for me. I wanted an outside opinion before I send them back to DW for testing so I can compare the two. So we will see where that goes.

Did you do the AFPR kit just for funsies or to push the injectors further? Just curious.

The original intent was to push my dw1000s further if I needed to for my fpred setup. At that time 1000s were the biggest injectors out.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
Gotcha. If you can't tell, I'm weighing my options and trying to find a common thread in other people's setups. There really isn't much out there still, I'm surprised how much groundbreaking there is to do on the X fuel system.

I just meant 'no kidding'. People keep looking at my story funny but there are more things that don't work than do with the X.

Yea I was going to say, look at Lomker haha. I'd love to swap in an evo 8/9 fuel tank if it was possible. It has drains in it doesn't have starvation issues.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
I am always hesitant to post my silly ideas on this forum but I need more opinions.
Here is my idea, copied and pasted from evoxforusm:
Here is what I was thinking....selling my FPblack and tub mani and going to a stock turbo and stock mani on my 2.2L and high comp...very tempting.
My reasoning, I need money lol. Then once I catch up on money I will just go t3.
Now I would imagine I should be able to get 400whp+ and 425wtq+ on a REAL dyno with a stock turbo and my setup the real question though, will it satisfy me.
The good news would be it would be reliable and easy to tune I bet it would be super fun for going around town, v8 torque.
Thoughts? Stupid? I like paying off debt and I bet with the displacement and higher compression it would be just enough to keep me happy...really a working car would keep me happy haha.
Real dyno meaning MAP's dynojet, not DB's dyno, I won't get near that on DB's. Just not some crazy internet dyno.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
Do the math I guess and see if it's worth it. If you're going to do it now's probably a good time. Also prolly a good time to swap injectors. Get a good basic bullet-proof tune on the STS once the motor is broken in and you'll be in good shape!
One thing I will say though about my engine build--I was really glad to not touch much else with my combo--turbo, injectors, maf, etc all stayed the same so I could fire it up and go make vacuum pulls straight away w/o worrying about tuning. Just food for thought--you might get the car back quicker if there's less stuff changing.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
STS sounds sensible, but you will want to push the limit, do you have that kind of self control? Be honest, All it takes is one loss on the drag strip (or Street) and you will be strapping big power back in. Any thoughts about getting yourself 4 more cylinders? I mean you really seem to fit the profile for a v8 and straight line fun.
On side note, your car was bad ass with the black setup, just rebuild it as is, get it back on the road, and drive the shit out of it.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
Well I plan to go t3 eventually. AMS offered me a rather good deal on their kit but I just don't have the money right now for it. I am half tempted to take a loan out on it because its a good deal, but I am sick of borrowing, it feels way better to pay shit off. My brother just graduated college so he will be moving in and another friend might be moving in too. So a few roommates will equal TONS more money for paying off debt and mods.
The STS on a 2.2L sounds really really fun but I might just stick it out with the black. I need to sell the black regardless and buy a different stock frame though, I can't say why but some people may know the reasoning if they have talked with FP.
And yes Shawn, I really want a c6 z06 but I just don't have the funds to get one right now maybe in a few years. Plus my dads c6 normal vette has stupid traction problems stock, I love the AWD and want to get on a road course eventually too.
Regardless, I will wait this out for now and see how it all shakes out. Danny said the block shipped to ERL early this week so hopefully they get it tomorrow or maybe even they saw it today.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
FP? I talked to Hollywood.
'vacuum pulls' can be done on any turbo, I reckon. He knows to leave the injectors the same...he had to borrow my stock injectors the last time around.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
Soooo, thinking of switching a few other things during this build.
What are the thoughts on switching to the short runner manifold from MAP? They used it on their shop evo and made 722whp on it so I am guessing that it flows enough. I am only worried about it lasting as they don't make it in house.
I am almost for sure switching my downpipe out for MAP's external dump one for better boost control and maybe the HKS wga instead of my blouch for a few more psi.
Trying to dial in the "perfect setup", basically a wide ass power band.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
MAP short runner = Tomei says a credible source, I wouldn't worry about the quality, plus I am sure they'd warranty it if it ever cracked.
