Datalogger

I am looking for something to use with my 91 TSi's OBD I system. Everyone says to go with a datalogger or DSMlink. Where could I pick up a PALM pilot w/ software and a link cable?

Re: Datalogger

look up the user name romster on ebay. I bought a Palm, cable, and he included the MMCd software for $80. Works great and saves the hassle of making a cable.

Here I'll do the leg work for ya. A little more than I payed but not much.

Re: Datalogger

80 dollars?

you can pick up a M100 for like 20 dollars, a cable is like 15. that puts it at 35. plus shipping would be less than 50. MMCD is free, you can get it anywhere.

Re: Datalogger

Like I said it saves the hassle of making a cable and everything is included. Yes, he is making good money on these.

Re: Datalogger

Can you use a laptop instead? Is their any sites that show how to make the cable, it looks simple.

Re: Datalogger

tim, i got the same product from romster & it does work fine. but good luck on trying to understand the software (mmcd) if you have never used it before. i had not & had to spend several hours searching/reading to havea good idea on what the data meant.
if you need links to some resources let me know.

that being said it is hella useful!

berda, it can be used on a laptop. i don't know if the data can be directly read into excel or some DAS program, but i am aware that you can get a palm simulator for your laptop & and run the datalogger program on it. it essentially makes your laptop into a pda (which seems oddly like going a "step down" to me considering a laptop's capability).

cudvig, i wish i had known about the do-it-yourself route & saved myself that $30. but knowing me, i would have screwed something up & made a seeming 1-2 hour project into 4 - 5 hours easily. that 2-3 hour savings is worth the $30 to me so in the long run it all worked out.

Re: Datalogger

Any of the passive cables that you find on ebay can be used for either palm or PC by switching pins 2 and 3, and switching the gender on the cable end. Otherwise known as a null-modem adapter.
