Found MY Problem
Just got the tranny out of the car. Popped the top off it real quick to have a quick look see. Here's what we found. Which fork is this?

Re: Found MY Problem
looks like the 5th gear fork. you should be able to knock the pin out of the fork and just pull it off with the gear. looks like you might have lucked out and not have to open it up. it looks like you broke part of the selector ring too.

Re: Found MY Problem
I hate to say it man, but that actually looks good! Good, as in in-expensive and easy enough to fix.

5th gear? Crap, I ordered a new 1-2 and 3-4 fork. Looks like I need a 5th as well then?

Re: Found MY Problem
The little tabs popped out too. That is what is on top of the fork. There are 3 of them held in by a clip.

Re: Found MY Problem
They go in from the top on the slider. The other 2 may be in there, look for them.

Re: Found MY Problem
OK, well I got the new 1-2 and 3-4 forks today. I ordered a new 5th gear fork. There were 2 different ones the dealer had. I just picked one, hopefully it's right.
Jet I figured out where that tab goes that you were talking about. But this little ring thing is broken. Is that called the selector ring? I guess I'll have to put one of those on order too.

Re: Found MY Problem
Also, VFAQ mentions this spring. My tranny does not have this spring. The whole little dealy that is surrounded by the turqoise circle, i do not have. What's up with that? Anyone know what it's called so I can order it?

Re: Found MY Problem
Also, I plan on double pinning these new forks. Where do you ideally want the second pin to go? Above or below the oem pin? Parrallel or Perpindicual with it? I'm assuming you use the same size pin as the OEM one in the second hole as well.

Re: Found MY Problem
I would go perpendicular and above or below a good amount. I don't know if I would mess with it though. The holes are actually what make the fork weak. Adding more will probably just make it worse. I would put a smaller pin in if you do it.
That broken piece is the slider or selector ring.

Re: Found MY Problem
Thanks for the info. I thought it was the location of the OEM hole that was the problem, so putting a second pin, where it's a little more beefy, made it more durable.

Re: Found MY Problem
The spring you're missing is a wave spring. You only need one pin, and someone that knows how to drive.

Re: Found MY Problem
there is a few degrees difference on the angle of the shift forks for the 2g dsms.. we found that out the hard way when we did my trany first few times.
it will look very close but it will be only off a few degrees.

Re: Found MY Problem
Both the forks he had on his computer were for 1g's. One was for pre-May 1991, and the others were Post-May 1991, or something like that. I guess I'll find out! Thanks for the help so far!
