Re: $200 cage?
Wow, shipping is suprisingly cheap on that too. I guess the real cost is welding it in.
What all does one have to do to get the welds certified, because their is no way me hitting a rollcage with some flux core mig welds is gonna be as good as a pro welder with a nice tig welder.

Re: $200 cage?
Is this cage certifiable? I'd run it once (If ever) i get over that track rule, and get a pink slip to be thrown out.

Re: $200 cage?
I heard a few people that have done it. They say fitment is decent, a few things need to be cut. but, for the total cost, it's not bad at all. You get 6x6 inch plates to weld to as well, that bolt to the floor. The main roll hoop needs to be cut down a bit if you still have the headliner. but, the cage also works even with all the interior still there.

Re: $200 cage?
Hmmm. I will have to look into that. I dont think I am going to be going fast enough to require a cage, but shit, if I need one thats a cost effective way to do it.

Re: $200 cage?
That isn't the greatest deal. I could have gotten that cage for $160+ shipping, but I paid $270 and got the chromolly cage.

Re: $200 cage?
I wouldn't feel comfortable with just bolting the cage to the chasis. It would definately have to be welded in.

Re: $200 cage?
Thanks for the comment cher.
I was just posting this for those whom haven't seen these cages. I know it maybe a bit cheaper to have a cage just made, especially for those of you with friends who can weld. It was just another option.

Re: $200 cage?
I have installed 3 similar kits and you get what you pay for. They fit ok and the piping is seam welded, not DOM which is needed to have a certified cage, roll bars do not need to be certified and tracks never looked at my roll bar.

Re: $200 cage?
That's cheap. I paid about $300 to have one made 5-6 years ago, and that was a deal. They don't have to be tig welded for 10.0 and up. Mine is mig'd and has been fine with all the inspectors at RF, the tracks in Iowa only check to see if you have an engine under the hood. I'd step up to CM next time, but with my pathetic times so far, who cares.

Re: $200 cage?
Mild steel can be used in a roll bar/cage down to a 7.50@180mph and be approved MIG welded. Any time you use Chrome Moly in a roll bar/cage structure it needs to be approved TIG welded, you can TIG mild steel also but its faster to MIG.

Re: $200 cage?
Bring back to life... Is this 8pt roll bar OK to use? I mean, I read it's good down to 11 second passes. Could it be modified to be acceptable for 10 second passes?

Re: $200 cage?
It's good to 10.0 and up to 135mph, but the 10.0 rule is much more heavily enforced.

Re: $200 cage?
The kit does not need the "d" bars to be legal, and it is called a 6point roll bar (attached to body in 6 points). Roll bars are good to a 9.99 or 135mph the ET is what they are looking at more then MPH, and 6point(or 5point to passanger door bar is needed) roll bars do not to be certified, just proper welding either MIG/TIG pending material. So to make it a Roll cage and legal to a 8.50@150mph you need to make it a cage for the driver, so a hallo bar and down bars to make it a 8point roll cage(attached to body in 8 points). The "d" bars need to go to a frame of somekind, to be certified by the local chassie inspector we have come up with a way to add a frame rail for the "d" bars to go to. Also with a 8point roll cage you can leave out the door bar on the passanger side and you also need a window net. 6point mild steel roll bar needs to be made from 1-3/4" .125" wall DOM tubing, Chrome Moly tubing can be 1-3/4" .083" wall DOM tubing and fully TIG welded. Then 8points can be made out of 1-5/8" .125" wall DOM mild steel or 1-5/8" .083 wall DOM chrome Moly, all joints need to be fully welded and gussets on any joint off the main hoop. Also the price of a roll bar/cage is the time, material is not that much money.
