Re: Advice - Ditch the talon for 928

We have done some work and tuning on a 928. But it is a 928 with the Mercedes auto, a built Chevy small block engine, and a Ford wiring harness/ECU with a GM MAF. The thing looks like it is straight out of the mid 70s instead of 80s with what the owner did to the interior and body.

Re: Advice - Ditch the talon for 928

There is no comparison between a 944 and a 928, they are as different as different can be. The 944 is a 4-cylinder car, the 928 only came with a V8. The 928 can definitely be made to handle well. When I used to autocross around 1995-1997, there was a red 928 race car that used to come out and play. It was nasty fast and outhandled anything else there except an open wheel car or shifter cart. With the right parts, it'd outhandle most anything. I was referring to the stock suspension combined with age.

Mine is also an auto, they shift well, but might not be the best setup depending on what you use it for. They have a lot more wiring and such than the 924/944. The Bosch electronics had problems(which I just had fixed on mine) and can be a bear to track down. Since they are so different than all the other Porsches, most Euro shops won't touch them. I got mine fixed up at Auto Edge in Mahtomedi, since they were the only ones that would work on it that I called.

Also, mine has the newer S4 style rear and spoiler, which look much better than the old ones. I'm pretty sure you can swap those parts on and put some better looking wheels on than the phone dialers they came with in 1985.

It's nowhere near as nice as the red one above, but here is a shot of my old 944.

My mother's was the gold with black trim. I loved that car. Hardly a chirp out of first , but a full rotation of the tires in second!!

And I still love the time I went around the guy on the outside of a turn on Hwy 3 and never crossed the center line...It's the 30mph right hander going south that everyone takes the right turn lane to apex. He took the turn lane, I took the standard lane and beat him through the corner.

928's used to be my favorite Porsche in the day.

Ironically, I'm watching Risky Business right now. Remember the 928 in there?

Yep, that was the car to have in the 80's, besides the Ferrari Spyder replica on Miami Vice, or KITT.

Re: Advice - Ditch the talon for 928

Out of curiosity, would anybody here be interested in it? I am thinking about flying one way for my trip and driving it back. I don't really want to ditch my DSM for it, but apparently my step-mother doesn't mind me flipping it for a little profit. Not sure if I want to do this, but if I had a buyer lined up I'd be all for it.

What I know so far is: Very nice exterior. Not so great interior (the usual dash cracks and some worn leather). Running a bit rough, but my dad thinks just bad gas. Some fresh high octane and injector cleaner should cure it. Still waiting on pictures.
