Does a 20g suck these days?

I've been hearing some information lately that 20Gs are pretty much worthless as an Evo3 16G flows only 2cfm less (I say BS) and one of those FP 18Gs would be "way better" and that a generic PTE 50 flows just a bit more than a 20G. Anyone have any real facts for me?

I have a friend with a very quick e85 20G car (Kerry 95talonracer), my old car had a BR 20G which was a lot of fun and it was not laggy at all, I only know good things about them.

The 20G is a old truck turbo. There have been massive improvements in turbo design over the years.

The 20G is expensive if you buy it new. If you want a long lasting turbo with water cooling get a GT30R

According to MAP's site and a friend of mine, the Evo III 16g's are rated at 39lbs/min, 18g's are rated at 40 lbs/min, the TD06 20g is rated at 48lbs/min and FP greens are 50lbs/min. Also for comparisons sake, the TD05H 20g (bastard 20g) is rated at 44 lbs/min.

In my opinion, the 20g's are kinda worthless. Sure they are a good turbo, but new they are like $1200. Why would you do that when I could get a PTE 50 trim thats going to flow more for $300 less? The 18g's are a good replacement for the Evo III 16g IMO, they dont flow hardly any more, but they do have a more favorable compressor efficiency at higher boost levels. I would put a Evo III 16g on a pump gas street car, but someone looking 22+ lbs of boost I would recommend a 18g.

IMO: Evo III 16g < 18g, 20g < 50 trim.

For a new turbo, I would go with a 50 trim first. Mainly because it is cheaper. The 20g and 50 trim are pretty similar flow wise, but 20g's seem to be more durable. By the time the 50 trim dies, you will probably want to go bigger anyway. You can get the 50 trim in BB now, so that would be an option too.

If you can find a used one in decent shape, go for it. If you are thinking of buying new though there are far better options these days for the money.

If you can find a used 20G in good shape at a good price its a great turbo. I picked up a 20G for $400 back when I had my Talon and it was a great turbo. It was a definite improvement over the Big 16G.

There will always be something newer and better available, you just have to decide your goals and your budget.

My car is not that quick. I really like my 20g which is the FP TD06 20g and seems great to me. Im not trying to steal your thread but what is the max effecient psi on a td06h 20g? I am at around 31psi or so.

How much do new PTE 50's run these days?

I ask 'cause a friend wants to sell me his basically new 20G/Tial 38 on o2 combo for a good price.

PTE's are around $900 new.

i was thinking about the 20g's also, but them are big turbos. i think one would need to do more mods to make it go. im going with the 18g, evoIII is getting boring....

A 20g is not a big turbo, it doesn't flow all that much more than a Evo316g. There is no point in going to an 18g unless you do the FP one. 20g is a great DD turbo, along with a 50 trim.

I am right there with JET. It is not a big one at all. My Car has one with the 50 trim and I honestly need more than it provides. But then again I am selling it and nobody wants my car

Selling the turbo? How much?

I had a 20G on my car for years, great street turbo, ran out of poop around 26 psi though.

Selling the entire car. I got about 21psi if my gauge is correct. Don't know how much higher I can bring it on pump.
