Rust spot repair?

I just bought another car and it has a little rust. I've done bodywork and painted cars before but I've never tried to repair without repainting the whole thing. I have three rust spots two on the rear quarters where the bumper meets the steel in front of the tires. There is also a spot on the front fender in front where the bumper meets. I will replace the front fender with new and paint. But the rear quarters.. is there a way to just fix those spots with out major blending or headaches. What I want to do is fix the rust fill the hole and spot paint it. Or will the look like shit? I don't have the time or money to redo the whole thing until next year but I want the rust gone for summer. Any Ideas?

If you don't cut the rust out, it will come back quickly. Rust is like cancer, once you get it, it is almost impossible to get rid of. That is why a clean shell has such a premium price.

there is ways to fix it with out cutting it out if it is not a huge rust spot and it will not come back

The metal around the area is usually so thin that it will rust through in a year or 2. If it was just surface rust, yeah. He said there were multiple holes though, so that usually isn't good. It is hard to tell without pics.

Along these lines, have you seen anything better than the POR15 line for rust inhibitors?

Weird how the camera makes it look scratched to hell.

I want to remove the rust stop it from getting worse and make it look like it was never there. This is sounding impossilbe to me right now.

The only rust I see is on your rotors.

Ahh, that just looks like some bubbles in the paint. That likely isn't all the way through and should be an easy fix. You will want to grind out all the rust you can, use a good rust inhibitor, then bondo up the spot and do a touchup paint. TKR can give you more details, he is more of a pro than I am.

Thats the respones I was hoping for. I'm going to replace the front fender with new. When I get the rust fix I will be %100 rust free until I take of the skirts. I hope I don't see what twotalons did.

I can almost guarantee that rust spot is at least 75% through the metal, if not all the way through. You would do best to cut that spot out if you don't want it to come back. At least it's not really a big area, but might be tricky considering the fuel door is right there.

take it all the way down to start with then go from there. kevin and I are the 2 body guy's on here. you might get lucky, but probley not it started from the inside so it is more than likley rotted almost the hole way though. just do what kevin said right above

Has far as repainting the spot. Can I just use touchup or do I have to paint the whole 1/4.

You should be able to touch up that spot as long as you blend it in and get a good color match. You may end up buffing the whole car though, the finish is going to be very different. It looks like it could use one anyway though.

I see the white marks that look like scraches in the picture but you can't see them in person.
Ok so I'm grinding down to bare metal, using some sort of rust inhibitor, filling the hole, prime, paint, clear and buff the crap out of it within reason. Does this black even have a clear coat?

Well, grind it down and see what you have. Then take some pics and post them up. If you have holes you have a decision to make, have it look ok for a year or two, or fix it for the long term?
