Re: evo head vs. 1g head

Evo heads resemble 2g heads, if anything; but they are far from identical.

Evo 8 and 9 heads are different as well.

This question is rather vague. Specifically what year evo head are you referring to?

Re: evo head vs. 1g head

I purposely made the question a little vague cause I picked up a 6bolt with 10k on it and it's supposed to have an evo3 head on and I'm just trying to figure out what I can about them

Re: evo head vs. 1g head

Well, i know evo3 heads are their own deal; They aren't exactly a 1g head or a 2g head.

The intake manifold flange is different on the evo 3 heads, so it should have a matching intake manifold with it. A 1g or 2g intake will not work.

Re: evo head vs. 1g head

Intake manifold flange different?

An Evo 3 head is a 2g head but with different cams from my understanding. Smaller ports like the rest of the evo 4-8 heads (except turned around)

Other then that they are identical. The Evo 3 came with a different Intake then a 2g. What does the intake manifold look like?

If you have a 1g intake, it is a 1g head (with big ports) or they ported the heck out of the Evo 3 head

Mark will know, he's the resident evo3 expert. SuperBleeder is right though, the E3 head is similar to a 2G head, but not identical.

Re: evo3 head vs. 1g head

I may have misinterpreted what i had heard about the intake flange.

It may be that the intake will bolt up, but the ports still wont match up.

Re: evo3 head vs. 1g head

ok
evo 3 head
2g size intake ports
the intake ports are a straight shot to the valves
uses 2g gasket
they have bigger cams stock over a dsm
the springs are alittle heaver
the valves are lighter and sodium filled (If it is the evo III head and not a evo I-II head)
uses a 94 style halo cas
the evo I-III heads are pretty much the same you need a casting number to find out what it came off of.

Re: evo3 head vs. 1g head

the cas is definitely different than the one on my 90. I'll take off the intake manifold and look at the intake ports and see what they look like. is there anything else that could verify that it's an evo3 head like any markings on the cams or anything? thanks for the replies

Re: evo3 head vs. 1g head

well the intake ports on the head are definitely the same as the 1g intake manifold. it also doesn't look like it's been machined to port match them either. is it safe to say this is actually just a 1g head??

Is the port angle different on a Evo 3 vs a 2g?
I guess I thought the Evo and the 2g heads were pretty much the same except for the stuff bolted on to it.

Yes, the port angle is different from what I've researched online.

Re: evo3 head vs. 1g head

Im switching both of my cars to 2g heads, hope im doing the right thing, Kiggly does very well with the 2g head. For a street car(wich my cars are) I think it would be MUCH more drivable.
