Odyssey PC680 or Equivalant Questions
I was wondering if anyone is running the Odyssey PC680 and how it is doing with their cars. I actually have several questions regarding them.
1. There are 3 versions of the PC680, the PC680, PC680M and the PC680MJ, what are the differences in this? There are price differences.
2. I have heard reports of owners leaving their cars for about a week and the battery being totally dead. Are these AGM style batteries prone to losing charge rapidly?
3. How do these batteries perform in the cold? The CCA rating seems somewhat low to me but I thought I would ask those who actually have had experience using it in the cold.
4. I have heard there are cheaper versions of this battery, with the same specs, but simply rebranded. Is this true?
Thanks in advance,
- Stephen

Re: Odyssey PC680 or Equivalant Questions
I have the Genesis EP16 which is very similar to the PC680 (20 less CCA) and its been perfect for me, never let me down even in the -15F temps last winter.

Re: Odyssey PC680 or Equivalant Questions
my pc680 works ok. It went totaly dead and will not hold a charge for a full day. It also does not like to start the car after 10hrs at work.

Re: Odyssey PC680 or Equivalant Questions
I run one but I only drive in the summer so can't comment on it's cold weather performance. If I let the car sit for a couple weeks, the battery will be dead. I also run a sub so I'm sure that draws a little extra and probably doesn't help anything.
As for what the different models are, I'm not certain, but I thought that some of them were just the battery, and some of them included a little metal casing around the battery, hense the different part number.
Also if you search on here, I know I put a link a year or 2 ago somewhere on this site, of the cheapest one I had found that was just like the Odyssey. It wasn't the Genesis, but some other brand. Try doing a search on here and you might find the link. I was planning on using it, but I bought a JMF kit in the end which included the Odyssey so that's what I ended up with.

Re: Odyssey PC680 or Equivalant Questions
I've run a PC680 for the last 3 years on my evo, its been nothing short of flawless on a DD. However, if you let the car sit for more than a week, and the battery is getting old, it may or may not hold a charge. The end of last winter my car wouldn't start a few times after being gone for a week or so and not driving, but then after I had decided to replace it (but hadn't actually done so) the car sat for a week when I was out west, got burried in snow, and fired right up. 9 days outside. I ran that battery all spring, summer, and fall, and finally replaced it with the Genesis in November. It's been flawless so far this winter, even after sitting for a week over xmas.

I've had mine for a few years now too. Works great, even when it gets very cold. Like said though, if you let it sit for 5-6 days you'll need a jump.

Re: Odyssey PC680 or Equivalant Questions
Well the one I was referring to earlier was made by a company called Gruber, but looking around it may no longer be made. I did find this one however...
http://www.amazon.com/PowerStar-PS-6.../dp/B001FXY7NW
And another quick search showed that like I said above, the difference between a 680 and a 680MJ is the MJ version has a "M"etal "J"acket around the battery. Not really needed, but also doesn't hurt either I suppose.

From what I understand, the metal jacket will prevent it from fitting in some of the pre-fabbed mounts.
food for thought.

Thanks for you help guys. Kracka, if I go with the Genesis EP16, where would I be able to find terminal posts for that application?

Re: Odyssey PC680 or Equivalant Questions
How about a lawn mower battery, some carrage bolts, and about $35.
Those A______ Glass Matt batteries need a special charger usually... We just bought one at work for Toyota Prius's starting batteries
I would get the Braile battery w/ the carbon fiber case

Re: Odyssey PC680 or Equivalant Questions
Well I think I destroyed my Odyssey today. It was dead and I plugged the charger on it. Completely forgot about it. Probably charged that sucker for a good 12hrs. Came home and the whole garage and house smelled like rotten eggs. I was trying to figure out what it was then I realised OH CRAP. Ran into the garage, and she was still charging, except the battery looks like it's pregnant now.
I'm going to order up that one off Amazon that is cheap. \except I'll order from this vendor because it's even cheaper

Cheapest I've found it now. But the website is jacked up so I can't order it. I'm just going to call in the order tomorrow.
