Installed diff bov, now possible compressor surge

So i got a used Turbonetics Raptor bov and installed it on my car last night. I loosened the adjustable set screw on it cause it was set about all the way down. And i just retightened it a lil but. I am thinking maybe i went to far though. Because of the side exit exhaust i can usually hear the turbo spool down. And with the stock bov it was a nice and smooth spool. But now every now and then it when it spools down i can hear it fluttering. I was just wondering if this was compressor surge or not. i dont want it to screw something up. Thanks.

The blow off valve is fluttering, that is not compressor surge.

The bov fluttering would cause the noise in my exhaust? The bov is recirculated so I barely hear it at all. All i notice is the whine of the turbo as it spools down fluttering in my exhaust. Sorry if my first post wasn't clear enough.

Re: Installed diff bov, now possible compressor surge

Compressor surge occurs when the turbo spools up and is under boost, not when it spools down.

That is kind of a shitty BOV.

Re: Installed diff bov, now possible compressor surge

a lil bit of a flutter when you let off is not the harmful compressor surge and not a big deal, although a looser BOV will help get rid of it, if it bothers you. You will know when you get real compressor surge, my 50 trim does that if you roll on it before full spool rpm and let it build up, you will feel the power surge, and your boost gauge will jump all over.

Re: Installed diff bov, now possible compressor surge

i think you will know when it's compressor surge. I'm sure the bov is just 'fluttering'

Fluttering

i will have to retake another video of my car but my bov still sounds like this..which is fluttering. probably hear it flutter in the middle of the video.

Thanks for the videos. It is definately not compressor surge that i am hearing. That's a good thing. That makes me feel better.

As long as it works... does it really matter that much?

Re: Installed diff bov, now possible compressor surge

It does work just fine. I only paid $40 for it. Not complaining, I just heard something different after putting it on and some one here in town said it might be compressor surge, which obviously he was wrong. And i just wanted to know for sure before something broke. I appreciate your answers, and the stuff i learn from them.
