A car like this can't be much safer, obviously more than a bike, but tiny cars like this make me nervous safety wise.

Just have to ride like you're invisible and be careful of your surroundings and its pretty safe. Then its just up to you not to crash, which I shouldn't be giving advice on that one lol

Re: Goddamn the new Mirages are cheap!
These things have navigation and can be loaded pretty good. ( I was meant to put that in my original post)
On a realistic note, it would be nice to have a warrantied car that would be driven a lot and have some comforts.
With that said, I'd pick up an older civic in the same price range, I looked at them when i was getting my BMW and they come insanely loaded from what civics used to be. (heated seats, nav, maybe remote start)

These things became like the Eclipse; completely different from what they originally were. All downhill. It would be cool if someone bought one and AWD swapped it with an Evo. motor.
I won't lie; it's so cheap I thought about getting one.

I'm still tempted to pick up either a used/off-lease Mirage or iMiev this fall to use as my bad weather beater.

It is werid, but i'd vote iMiev... either way it is a super basic, slow, and boring to drive.... but one of them you don't have to fill with gas.

Re: Goddamn the new Mirages are cheap!
Exactly my thoughts. No gas, no maintenance besides cabin air filters and the occasional tires/brakes, and with my current commute I could get to work & back for an entire week on a single charge.

Re: Goddamn the new Mirages are cheap!
Dont you have a long commute? This range seems pretty small, maybe 2 days to work and back for me on a charge. But still pretty cool.
Range Combined (EPA 5-cycle - official) 62 Miles
Range City (EPA LA4 cycle) 98 Miles
Cool specs though on paper, too bad it looks terrible lol.

Re: Goddamn the new Mirages are cheap!
I moved offices in December so my roundtrip commute is now 13-15 miles depending on route. My old commute was 31 miles roundtrip. Sounds like worst-case I'd be able to get only 4 days of commuting on a single charge, best case all 5 plus a few extra errands.

Re: Goddamn the new Mirages are cheap!
I can confirm that "likely to include" thing. The PEV (Partial Electric Vehicle) Outlander is slated to hit the US in MY16 (late 2015). It was hoped that we would see it for MY15, but with an overwhelming demand in the EU market, they delayed it for US release.
The Montaro will also be back as a full sized SUV in the next 3-4 years, and MAYBE the L200 aka the truck version of the Montaro.
