My brother in law, has a Rock River Arms LAR-15, and LOVES it. Super Accurate, awesome AR15.

Re: The Gun Thread
Could build a Juggernaut for the price of the SCAR and be twice as cool
But in all seriousness, I have heard some mixed reviews on the juggernaut chassis' for the M1A. But then again, I have heard bad things about the SCAR, ACR, you name it. There will always be reviews on people not liking a weapon, but not all weapons are suited for everyone. I think it is really dependent on what you need it for and how you like the feel of a gun. Shoot some ARs and a SCAR. You may end up liking ARs more. I can not really give any strong advise on why to buy a SCAR, havent had the pleasure of shooting one yet.

Re: The Gun Thread
Well my plan was to use iron sights until I save up for a scope, was deabating on an ACOG or HAMR...both are kinda pricey but I love the idea of being able to have some range and attach a red dot too.
Realistically, if I just wanted a gun for shooting at the rage, I wouldn't get this. My main thing will be small game fun (coyotes and prairie dog and beaver etc) and honestly, yes "COOL Factor" is a huge reason why I am looking at the assault rifles. I have always just really wanted an assault/military style weapon. I also want something I could deer hunt with as I will be trying that out eventually.
So I guess....cool factor is technically #1. I like to be different too which is why I don't want an AR15 or similar gun. Otherwise my needs a DPMS panther or something similar would be plenty.
But I do like the idea of shooting a heavier bullet (60 grain and up) and being accurate out to 500 yards+ which the SCAR is good to (assuming you know how to shoot ).
This help paint the picture at all? I find it easier to talk with people about these kind of things, back and forth is a lot easier then typing a ton of shit.

Re: The Gun Thread
Gotcha... nothing wrong with wanting to be different
I don't know how married you are to the 7.62x51 cartage, but it does pack quite a punch when fired. I've only used it (.308) in full sized rifles, so I cannot comment on a SCAR-H, but I would imagine the light-weight all-polymer frame would offer further control challenges.
If you want to look at some other 5.56 options (which you can purchase heavier than 60gr for) check out both the SCAR-L and the AUG A3.

Re: The Gun Thread
Good luck ordering anything right now. Most distributers aren't taking orders right now because they're so backed up. If you see what you want buy it. Buy mags as well. Most places are selling out fast.
And I vote for a FNAR for a fun tack driver.

Re: The Gun Thread
yeah, people are rushing to buy anything and everything AR. The chances of those guns falling into a ban again is there, but it's not worth worrying about right now. Don't get duped into jacked up prices either, I'd expect things to settle by late spring/summer and have stock and prices back to normal.

You're assuming there won'te be a ban. I wouldn't assume that yet.

I agree, I bought my AR right before the first ban and this feels quite similar. I can also see this happening really fast and once it starts the process he prices will go up even more. I waited and got burned last time, but did get my preban Colt AR.

Re: The Gun Thread
Well I am stopping at the Blaine PD to submit for my permit and then I am going to buy as soon as I get it back.
Depending on prices and availability I might end up with an AR of some kind, there are plenty I like which even inflated some will be reasonable.
Also considering a SIG556 and SIG516 (AR style), which I doubt I will find and Remington ACR or the XCR (don't like the bushmaster ACR, haven't heard good things).

Re: The Gun Thread
I'm trying to hope that a complete AR ban will not happen, but maybe they will focus on the mag size or putting other restrictions on how one purchases a gun.
The questionnaire in my view was pretty flimsy to fill out for a permit, and even though I had one you have to fill out a very similar form now at the gun store as well as go through the background check. And this was just for the .22lr I picked up.
I support making it a tad harder for people to get the guns, but banning them I hope does not happen.
Think about it, an AR ban will not solve anything. Someone can just strap on a few more glocks and mags and get the same results.
That being said, I'll probably try to pick up an AR sometime in Jan as long as I'm able to and the price hasn't gone up that much. I want to think the market will settle and the current buy up is a knee jerk reaction. If it's not, no big deal, I won't subject myself to overpaying for something like that. I'll enjoy plinking away with my .22 for a fraction of the cost.

Re: The Gun Thread
Is the permit for first time gun owners or something? I just bought a gun in Blaine last month and didn't fill out a permit. :P Just the normal state form when you buy the gun.

Re: The Gun Thread
Yea permit to purchase is only for handguns I thought from a private party, otherwise dealers you apply right with them.
Rifles and shotguns though.. they just do a quick check on your and off you go.

Re: The Gun Thread
Permit allows you to buy a handgun same day if you also pass the fed check. I have it as I'm also looking at a handguns, but for rifles you don't need one. Just the form and the fed check, think it's called a NIX check or something.
Also, if anyone hasn't been to Arnzen Arms in EP, go. Such a nice store and the staff is great. Their shop dog is amazing. lol

Re: The Gun Thread
Hmmm, I thought for sporting rifles (assault rifle style) you had to have it. It's called a permit to purchase.
I am going to Bill's tonight so I will confirm with them.
I already filed the form with the PD today, should have the permit in a week or two.
I also went to Capela's and Cabela's today, neither had any assault rifles Might end up with something bolt action, we will see. I am going to talk to Bill's tonight when we go shooting about ordering me one otherwise I might do the onlinegunbroker deal and have it shipped to Bill's. I am also going to be in Oklahoma all next week so I plan to look there and arrange to have it shipped to bills if i find something.

Don't be surprised they have no ammo for you to shoot an AR with. EVERYTHING is picked over and there is nearly nothing in stock, online, anywhere. Order up an AR now and you might see it sometime next early next year if you're lucky.
I got the last two 25 round mags for my Ruger SR22 at Fleet Farm tonight. Anything AR related there is also gone.

Re: The Gun Thread
Pretty sure the permit is for handguns, as well as assault rifles. I needed it to purchase my AR-15 receiver from Bill's. Bill's still had to do a quick check while I was there, but I needed the state issued permit as well. They're good for a year, and the permit was free when I applied at Blaine PD, and I think I got it in like a week. I was amazed because nothing government issued is free typically!

Re: The Gun Thread
Had trouble finding 7.62x39. Bought a 1400 round case of IMI munitions, complete with hebrew on the crate and a star of david on lid retainer. Sitting pretty with the new Arsenal SLR-101S AK and my converted Saiga 12.
