Power Steering Removal

Hey i wana know waht are the correct procedures of removing the power steering from my car. I've having issues with it and i dont wana deal with it so i just wana take it out completly. And tips would help also. I have to replaces my alternator too at the same time. Tips NEEDED. Thanks

remove belt, remove lines going to the stearing colum, plug the lines on the stearing colum.

my tip is not to do it. plenty of people have done it, both switching to 1.8 manual racks and running without the pump, and nobody recommends it.

okay...how about replacing the power steering pump...cause i'm leaking power steering fluid somewhere...when i looked under the car it was near the bottom of the downpipe. I'm not sure what the thing it's leaking from is called. I have a replacement PS pump and alternator i need to put it...cause my car loves to sqeek when i have my light on at night and it's coming from the power steering pump...or even alternator and both belts are tight

All you have to do is remove the lines from the pump and loop them together at the rack. I've been running mine like this for over a year. It kinda sux in parking lots and tight turns but I don't mind it.

Absolutely nobody recommends it? Right..... Stop talking.

Do just like carl said and you will be fine. If you want a better turn to lock ratio then get the manual rack out of a 1G with the 1.8 motor in it. With looping the lines on your current rack make sure you leave fluid in it, or you will have problems.

I've got the manual rack, works great for what I need. Less BS to get through to do the timing belt. The steering ratio is supposedly slower on the manual racks but I don't notice the difference. Be prepared to build some forearms if you don't have them already.

well u said that i have to leave fluid in the lines...what about if i'm leaking fluid in the first place...then i guess i should probably fix that before attempting this correct?

I loved the feeling in the FWD turbo with no PS. I could feel the road so much better. Sure its hard when barely moving... but oh well!

Just remember to re loop the power stearing lines back into the spot you removed a line. You dont want leaks and you dont wanna destroy your rack. Its easiest when the motor is out of the car.

You don't need the manual rack either. Our car that has removed PS doesn't have one.

okay...so i got my alternator replaced today cause i couldn't drive my car at night cause of sqeeking...anyways, i was there while the guy fixed it, i saw taht my steering rack was leaking....what are my options? how bad will it get if i dont repair it anytime soon. Thanks

haha, such hostility. i don't talk to drag racers or ape-men; all the people i know and all the reports i've read from people i don't know (all road-racers, daily drivers and autox'ers), say not to remove the power steering, it's not worth it and manual rack offers no real gains in feel/performance.

nice touch adding the "absolutely", and i'll continue to comment on information i have, thanks! as such, nobody i know (added the otherwise-implicit "i know" for your retardation) recommends it.

Clearly It wont be as good as power steering...Hence why they made PS! I have heard that it is harder but noone is saprised by that. its less BS is your way and it cleans up the engine bay a little(if you care).
