Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

Few questions...

Does the rear diff and tcase use the same fluid? (It looks like it does minus the AYC part) Also should the AYC fluid be changed as well?

And what do people put in those? Stock diaqueen? Or is it worth it to upgrade/change? I need to change that fluid soon, including oil so I need to go buy some.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

OEM Mitsu Diaqueen 90W LSD in the transfer case and one part of the rear differential. OEM Mitsu Diamond ATF SP3 in the other part of the rear differential. These are all simple drain/fill fluids; the AYC/ACD hydraulic fluid (also Diamond ATF SP3) does not need to be regularly changed or bled.

Thanks Kracka, you da man! Others have said they switch to Motul fluids but I like the Mitsu fluid path honestly. Now I know what to use.

So the AYC/ACD should still be fine at 30k miles I am guessing? or should I swap that out?

Ask me again in 10 years/100k miles That fluid is not considered to be scheduled maintenance.

+1 on the mitsu fluids. The one gallon of the of Diaqueen will last you a couple diff changes. Both sides should be changed in the rear differential, but you do not need to change out the ACD or AYC reservoir or bleed the system. Does that make sense?

Yes, I just wanted to make sure I didn't need to bleed and/or do the reservoir. Going to order up the two Mitsu fluids and put it on my to do list.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

Update:

So maybe a month ago I was logging the car and noticed my trims were maxed out so one of the guys on evoxforums offered to help me dial the injectors/MAF in, Clipse3gt.

Anyway, fast forward to last weekend, I made this:

Sweet duct tape intake

Plugged up the holes and threw this on because frankly I never did this back in the fall with Shane as I think Scheides had my stock intake/piping, which is tune the injectors with the stock MAF. Tuning big injectors with a big dumb choppy intake sucks so I wanted to start from scratch to dial it in.

Well been doing LOTS of logging over the last week or so and have gotten the trims within a few percent on the DW1300's.

Well, I was all happy today as it was Friday and I had a half day of vacation. What better to do then get some more logging done for clipse to look at?

I woke up from my NAP...raining still now. Ok, no big deal.

Get down to the evo get in the car, search for the clutch pedal...whered it go? FUCK ME IN THE ASS! Stuck on the floor, speechless. I pull it up with my foot and start the car and get it to the driveway.

Then I heat the car up to temp, reset trims and load the new MAP. While Idling I took this vid?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q77MsB40Yrg&hd=1

It doesn't look like its burning coolant does it? I have almost never seen smoke come out of my exhaust unless its really cold out but thats just condensation then. Its windy so it might be hard to tell but I could see white smoke that I don't think is typically there. Been so long so I have looked though I don't even know.

Whatever, idled the car for 15 mins for the log then went cruising. After 15mins the clutch was really bad and wouldn't return up without me pulling it so I had to take sneaky routes home to not fully stop, cutting through parking lots, running stop signs the works. Made it back and parked in my driveway.

My brother got home about 5 mins later and helped push the car in the garage as its not easy to get it moving as the clutch stays down. Then I see this in the driveway.

It appears my oil leak is getting a bit worse.

Again...speechless, too many damn problems. And this year seemed to be going so smooth.

Thank god my honda works so I can drive to the liquor store and stock up to put myself out of my misery.

Anyone wanna buy an evo? Or trade for a corvette or something stock

Fuck...man that sucks What CMC do you have in there? I know Cobb refuses to sell or even install the SSP ones anymore since they've have numerous failures with all three versions.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

Well didn't get a chance to check anything out over the weekend, was pretty busy and helped Shawn yesterday with his clutch install. Planning on looking at the CMC tonight. Maybe even trying to bleed it some to see if that helps. Hopefully there is a leak there somewhere and that is the problem. Hey, one of these times its got to be something easy right? If its not leaking I guess I will order up a new evo 9 CMC, I think they are only like 100-150, so not terrible. Then spend a weekend doing it myself.

Did get some good news though today, bonus time at work yay! Steady income is fun but something about getting a bonus that is like 4 paychecks is way more fun. What to mod next? house I think.

Good luck with the CMC, fingers-crossed it's an easy fix for once!

Wow another CMC? Do you push the clutch pedal sideways or something? Mash it on the floor for long periods of time? I just don't understand how you burn through them man

Is there any chance of just putting a (new) stocker w/ AMS ring back in there? Mine's still doing well (knock on wood)...

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

I only have like 5k miles on the CMC, I don't know how I could possibly drive it in a way to make it not work.

To me its a design issue if anything on the plate/adapter from magnus.

It has always squeaked from day 1 so not sure if its misaligned or it is just a shitty kit or what.

The stock one is tempting. I don't even know where mine is, somewhere at DB I am guessing as I don't think I ever asked for it back. However, with the magnus one it requires cutting some studs off which I believe are for the stock CMC. So I am prolly stuck with the magnus setup.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

Sadly, I think once you modify the firewall to accept an aftermarket unit you may not be able to go back to the stocker. I could be wrong though, maybe you can press in a new stud, or use a regular bolt w/nut instead. If it's possible, I think it's a great idea. Every year Mitsu has further reinforced the plastic so the later ones are actually pretty strong, especially with the AMS cock ring.

When/if I need to upgrade the clutch I'll be doing a ring at the same time.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

Well I looked around and checked the line from the master to the slave last night, didn't see any leaks or fluid. The reservoir was still full so I am guessing it has to be leaking internally to the Master cylinder. The only other thing I can do is have someone get in the car and push the clutch in to see if that does anything (didn't have anyone around last night). I guess we will see. I'll prolly order a new MC this week.

Is the MC bad to replace if the magnus kit is already installed? Or is it a few hour deal? Looks like I just have to remove a bunch of shit in the way.

Edit: Anyone know a place in blaine that can powerbleed my brake/clutch system? I can't go too far as my clutch is total fubar. But a few people on evoxforums have said they have seen this happen quite a bit just how I am saying because of air in the system. So I figured I would get a really good powerbleed done before I assume the MC is done for as no one has really seen a magnus/stock 8/9 cmc fail.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

Well I was feeling pretty good today even though I had to go back to work after a 4 day weekend and then the twins lost.

I went and bought some goodies (tools) at sears afterwork, like $350 worth...tools are fucking expensive. I guess I should've went to harbor freight.

Anyway, after I went there, came back to my house, jacked the evo up, pulled wheels off and used the power bleeder I went and picked up from Shawn at his work today at lunch.

Anyway, got everything done in a few hours, kinda taking my time, having a few drinks and opening all the new tools etc. I got in the car, pushed the clutch down a bunch and it felt good, was returning normally and all and I was pleased.

So I threw the wheels back on, lowered the car, torqued it all down and buttoned the car up for a drive...well right when I got in and turned the ignition, the clutch sank to the floor FML what the hell is with these POS MC's I keep getting.

This is a sad day for murlo...very sad. Gonna order a new Evo 8/9 MC I guess.
