Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
I didn't work on the car at all tonight, too cold and can't drive it anywhere. I am hoping the roads are clear enough by mid morning, still going to try to head to MAP tomorrow morning.

The roads weren't too bad on my own way into work this morning so you should be good to go.

Yes, with a trip to two different stores to get parts and helping out knoxville. It's a gay install.

Roads are ok, Side roads/ off ramps / city streets are coated with ice and slick. Main roads are getting better, Id say make the trek now there's very little traffic out there.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
Went to MAP today, was there a good 6-7 hours. They found my oil leak, it was my turbo return oil line, the oring ripped on the part into the block. Problem fixed now! No more oil leak.
We also did some fuel testing today. We pulled my fuel pressure gauge out further on a line and drove, still had pressure. So we strapped it on the dyno and jon VPN'ed in and we played some. The car was starting very hard, barely going. We actually had to put a jumper unit on it. The car fired up and ran great with that on, so we think i have a bad battery and actually think that might be affecting my tune/injectors with low voltage on them.
With the battery jumper connected during a pull we were finally able to get a "full" pull in (only out to like 7300 for starters, not full really). And I am liking what I am seeing. This is with like no tuning still haha.
More to come We couldn't start the pull any lower as down low fuel is really not coming in, MAP tables are still off. So this thing spools fast!
600whp+ at 20psi if I rev it out to my normal redline I think

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
I hate that stupid o-ring. Bad design imho, rips every time.
Thwarted by a battery eh? Geez. MAP has a lightweight unit you should try out:
http://www.maperformance.com/tomioka...i-tr-b600.html
It hits 20psi in a nice spot but torque is still pretty low and slowly climbs through the pull, that's crazy. My car (and yours on ef4 probably) made ~400wtq (dynojet) at 4500rpm so this setup is a good 100wtq below that there....maybe with some tuning it'll come back, but I think that's where the really big snail is obviously showing itself...the power up top is gonna be hella!
Will be curious to see how you like it on the street at this power level and then you know, what breaks when you start running some more boost

Yea, I think torque might be lagging behind for sure, but spool isnt' I don't think. I think this setup, if started at the same RPM will be the same time or better than the EF4.
It looks like I hit 400wtq on the EF4 at around 4200rpms on the last setup.
but i also started that pull 600rpms sooner.
I think I will loose a bit down low but I think with MIVEC tuning and some timing that it won't be too bad. This kit so far looks impressive, can't wait to get more results.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
I am going with the odyessey pc925 i think, putting some weight back on but a better/stronger battery with more reserve.
I am not sure about the down low yet, keep in mine pull wasn't started til after 3500 rpms and it got up in there in 1000rpms. We couldn't get into down low very well with the fueling problems down there.
I think it will be better with more boost and some actual mivec and tuning etc.
This is still very preliminary It feels like it hits hard down low still.

Me either, 35 will be ripping I think!
Just bought a new boost gague to match my AEM wideband. Going to install that this weekend when I move all my gauges up top to my new gauge pod.
Also ordered the PC925 battery, hopefully its here friday or monday at the latest.
The AMS battery is a Genesis 16EP, which is for snow mobiles or something. So its way undersized, basically just for drag racing etc. I think I made the right choice moving up a bit, more weight but worth not struggling to start if it works.
Going to head over the knoxville's tonight for install on his G8 and hopefully some tuning on my end too if Jon is available and my car starts.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
Jonny boy was busy bee tonight, no tuning.
Tried again for a spool graph, still breaking up from lean ness I think.
Here is my try...if I started too low it wouldn't give me a full clean run.
Here is starting higher, revving out Still wastegate.
Seriously can't wait to get this bitch rolling. Feels nasty up top.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
I haven't seen the SD stuff for the X, but the VE has got to be way out of whack around 4000rpm. Keep going, don't blow it up. You'll get it.

Full boost at 4100 isn't bad at all. Looks promising and can't wait to see it running good!

zero knock through any run i have logged so far, its running very strong so far. Just shitty down low. I agree, i think the VE (MAP tables) and maybe fuel calibration table need adjusting down there as the new turbo just flows so much more, the car felt pretty beastly with wastegate pressure, liking it so far.

I think it will potentially be even better with mivec and proper fueling etc. I wasn't able to really get into down low as the fueling is so off down there. Once I get fueling figured out, the car should spool by 4kish I think.

Neither, Jon Drenass has been tuning the car. He's from california, used to own HBspeed, then worked for Cobb when Cobb bought him out now owns his own shop again.
I have been using Jon since last Spring when I wanted to switch to SD (hybrid mode).

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
Well, keep in mind, very early stages of tuning, sorting out bunches of stuff. This wasn't on a flat road really either, uphill a tiny bit, but i wanted to show spool. We are fighting some surge too right now, mivec adjustment coming.
But the turbo hits really hard, spools in less than 1000rpms.
Sad news tonight...
tactrix broke Sending to Colby to fix tomorrow, going to try and borrow one in the mean time, but might delay tuning some. The car is beastly now. Destroyed a modded cobalt SS...he pulled up on my while logging and the car was feeling good so i ran him, but bus lengths on him, 2-3-4 run. The car broke my 275's loose from 2nd to 3rd, traction control kicked in.
Anyway, spool is looking good and we are working on getting load down to where we want it so I can run higher boost later.
To be continued....
Scheides or anyone, can I borrow a tactrix 2.0?
