Price on that thing was redonk too, I'm actually pretty jelly. I want one for a DD - wife threw that plan out the window.

Now we know why you got it so cheap
All good though, you got it for a great deal, you like it, and it has a long warranty that will be honored. Drive the thing into the ground and don't worry about it!

Re: Need New DD...~15k
We had no idea this was happening. Recently there was an article in a car magazine stating that this was going to happen. Suzuki responded stating it wasn't true. As far as we knew, until this announcement they were planning to stick around.

Yea, explains why they were offering really good financing options etc.
Reminds me of when I bought my evo. I got the evo at like 3k cash back and 2.9% APR (before recession really, just before) and I was like F YEA! Then 1 week later, 0% and more cash back offered. I was pissed at the dealer and I hadn't paid any of the loan yet but I couldn't get it shifted to 0%, sucked lol.
This is typical Murlo car luck, I have grown accustomed to it.
But you are right and that is the way I think of it. I bought this car to last me for as long as the car still works really. Until stuff starts falling apart I am keeping it. Its a great car still, comfy and has AWD for winters. It's really a perfect DD for me and I am still happy with the deal.
Yes, warranties are still in tact and parts will still be made as they sell cars everywhere else still as far as I know. Might be harder to get work done or get parts but not the end of the world.
The only deal is resale value. I am sure it took a $1500 hit today, maybe more, who knows. But I got a great deal, so it still doesn't bother me too much.
I like to still think I have a collector item now, they aren't being made any more

Well, kinda sucks that even your own company lies to its dealers. I doubt this was a surprise to the company, they were planning it for a long time I am sure. It makes sense why they had 72mo @ 0% now. Trying to clear inventory. But still not a bad deal for those buying. I am not sure if that would've changed my mind or not on the car, I don't think it would've, but I am sure I could've gotten a bit more money off as now these will be harder to sell.
Oh well, doesn't all the sudden make the car any different, still solid.

Re: Need New DD...~15k
Service shouldn't be an issue. Just like when Pontiac, Saturn and Olds went away there were still GM shops that were approved to do warranty work. Being that they're are only 2 dealers in the Twin Cities that are currently selling them, I'm sure both will continue to be certified for warranty work.
The only problem I see is non-warrantied parts. The price of these items may go up just simple due to supply in the US. Yes, Suzuki makes and sells cars outside of the US. In fact they're the 9th largest auto maker in the world. Just not sure how many parts will be stored here in US warehouses.

Yep, that was my thought as well, getting non warrantied parts later in its life. It won't be cheap but I think the car is plenty reliable so I can't imagine having to shell out too much.
Also, after 7 years or 100k miles I am not sure I will have the car too much after that. Depends on how fast I put 100k on it I guess. 7 years is a long time though and I am sure I will be getting a new car by then.

Murlo - I hope the car gives you no problems.
I just don't see how a car company would stop selling cars in the US if they were reliable and, for the company, profitable. Even if they are the in the top 10 worldwide, America is a huge consumer base.
Meh... I'm going to go drive my Mitsubishi forklift around.

Re: Need New DD...~15k
This is the explanation that we received, and I'm paraphrasing. The cars that were being shipped to the US market were basically left overs from other markets. This is a major reason we couldn't get the colors and package combinations we wanted. Where as with a brand like Mitsubishi, you name it, we can get it if it's not already on our lot. Inventory drives sales. When you have a customers that comes in and wants an AWD Kizashi, but doesn't want the kinda ugly blue color we have, we don't just call up our other stores in the twin cities and say "Hey, we'll trade ya for yours."
Suzuki recently changed their minds and decided not to invest in a US plant that would have provided the US market with a much larger supply of cars in different colors and options. This was a new development. As recently as September, we had regional reps stating that Suzuki was not planning to leave the US car market. We just got a delivery of slightly redesigned 2013 Suzuki's this week. So, this wasn't something anyone saw coming.

Well, I still enjoy the car. Loving it so far! I actually enjoy my commute now, well for now until I get used to the car then it will just be a commute again.
Soooo....figured I would continue this thread as now I am back to looking for cars, not for me now though. My dad was waiting for the election to be over before buying a new car as he owns his small business and without getting too political he was waiting for Obama to hopefully lose.
Well, shit happens and on election night his ~06/07 (can't remember year) Altima was rear ended in traffic and its totaled now (he was stopped at a light and a guy on a cell phone creamed him). So now he has to get a new car sadly, double whammy for him on election night.
He is going to spend 25-30k on his car and he wants leather and other amenities. He is ok with getting a slightly used car, 20-30k if that gets him into something like an Infiniti or Acura if its a better car. As the luxury cars seem to depreciate more when they drive off the lot compared to bare cars where it would make more sense to buy those new as they don't take quite a hit.
So far strong contenders:
New Kia Optima (loaded, maybe not turbo version though as 30k isn't enough).
New Camry loaded
New hyndai sonata loaded
New ford fusion (they are kinda pricey so we will see)
slightly used G37x (looks like 28-30k for these)
Any other ones in that price range we should check out? he will probably pay cash, maybe lease or maybe take a loan out. It's for his company car so he has options but will probably pay cash. Basically he wants to find the car he likes first then he will decide best way to do the money part, unless its 0% or 0.9% he said he'd prolly just do cash.
Thoughts? He prefers something with a bit of pep. he loved the mazda 6's but didn't buy them back when he got his altima because it was too slow (just before the speed6's came out), so we will probably check the speed6's too. But he did say he now prefers the extras over power compared to before.

Re: Need New DD...~15k
If he wants luxury plus peppy, I'd recommend the G37X, very fun cars and really comfortable. Just searched and found a 2011 with 30k miles going for $25k, seems there are some deals out there.

Luxy and pep, yeah I really like the G's, or maybe an IS with the inline 6. What about a 1.8T Audi?
