Re: 4b11t going into new RWD Hyundai coupe
Ghey, it's got the DV/BOV mounted to the compressor housing like the VW's do. If the turbo is the same size as the one on the Ralliart, it should make ok power for a 'fun' car with a tune and some basic mods. Should be pretty easy to bolt-on something bigger, and with what blouch and FP are already doing with the stock evo X turbo, who knows what we'll see for this application.
This platform is looking cooler and cooler...Kevin, when are you buying one?

Re: 4b11t going into new RWD Hyundai coupe
dang, it's pretty compact in there, they had to remove the power steering pump to remove the turbo. Not saying they're bad mechanics, but was it really that difficult?

Re: 4b11t going into new RWD Hyundai coupe
Hyundai's are actually very easy to work on. You have to remove some extra stuff every now and then but I've never failed to beat warranty time on a repair working for them. And they don't pay crap for warranty work there.

If it's anything like my kia, then I agree. It is easy to reach stuff on that car.

Re: 4b11t going into new RWD Hyundai coupe
One more thing I forgot to mention last night is that they won't be running a MAF. It will use 2 MAP sensors and an AIT sensor. From what I've been hearing of the JDM and KDM tuning shops, this thing shouldn't be too hard to tune. Some guy or maybe a shop, I'm not sure who it is has one running a GT30R and they're making 360 on a DJ. Stock looks to be around 170 ish DJ. It'll be interesting to see what the stock motor can handle.

And Scheides, I'm not sure when I get one. I'm thinking probably mid summer. I'll probably get the 2.0T with the track package. 225/40/19 front, and 245/40/19 rear Bridgestone RE050A Potenzas, 6spd manual tranny, black leather interior, 13.4" monoblock Brembos up front and 13" monoblock brembos out back. Higher rate springs, and bigger sway bars, and the Torsen type LSD. It also looks like it'll be coming with a nav system later on.Oh, and a spoiler.

The Neon SRT-4s had a similar all-in-one 16G on them. The BOV was built into the comp housing, but also the exhaust manifold and turbo exhaust housing were all 1 piece, which limits upgrades without a replacement exhaust manifold.

Re: 4b11t going into new RWD Hyundai coupe
yup, just like anna's 2.0t FSI in her vw.
Brandon, the word on the street is it will be nearly identical to the evo/ralliart motor, but there is speculation on if it will be assembled in the same facility, with the same q/c...who knows. We won't know for sure until they're out, people buy them, and they get taken apart. If they hold up like the 4b11t in the evo X seems to be, this should be a decent platform. Hopefully the rear end doesn't suck ass.

Re: 4b11t going into new RWD Hyundai coupe
I agree if it's just like the motors in the EVO's it will be awesome. But I'm just worried that since this is going to be making stock DSM power levels with a tiny turbo, at a very low cost, that it may be the weaker 4b11. If it does have the better motor though, I'm going to have to try hard to restrain from getting one. They just remind me of a DSM. Just cheap performance.

Re: 4b11t going into new RWD Hyundai coupe
The cars have been out in South Korea for quite a while now and their are pics of them sitting at the port in California, but there doesn't seem to be too much info on them. Anyone read Korean? I have seen claims of a 9.3:1 compression ratio versus the 9.0:1 ratio found on the Evo X, which might not be good.

Re: 4b11t going into new RWD Hyundai coupe
I would wager hyundai used a head of their own design as well.

Re: 4b11t going into new RWD Hyundai coupe
I've also heard that there might be a few differences between this engine and the one in the EVO. Most of it is just speculation and assumptions though. Some people think the reason they used the smaller turbo and made it have less hp is so that there would be a reason for people to buy the v6 car. Either way, I'm gonna at least test drive one when they get here and see how it is. One other thing I've heard is the flywheel/clutch is gonna be a weak spot in the drivetrain. I guess they're using some kind of 2 piece flywheel to cut down on vibration and make clutch engagement smoother.

Re: 4b11t going into new RWD Hyundai coupe
Just did a little more digging around, and it sounds like the compression ratio is 9.3:1. The pistons are pretty similar to the EVO pistons, but the rods look quite a bit different. No definitive word yet, but they could possibly be forged. Supposedly the block and crank are the same though
EVO rod/piston
Hyundai rod/piston

Re: 4b11t going into new RWD Hyundai coupe
I just read a site that they claim the 9.3:1 and that the turbo model was limited in output to give the v6 a reason to be bought, the mentioned something also about "they left headway for the drifters and tuners allowing up to 29 psi". I don't know if that means their maps sensors on read that high or what. Interesting to see the car is OK with low octane and makes more hp stock if you use premium, but it isn't NEEDED.

Re: 4b11t going into new RWD Hyundai coupe
Well 29psi would be "technically" as much as a 3 bar sensor would read so I would assume that's what they are going by. Interesting to see a higher compression ratio and a different rod. Almost looks to me like the Hyundai rod is more "beefy".
