Well maybe I will borrow one and we can try it out on my car before we do the springs. We will see, it won't be for a while anyway.
No baseball bats, but yes to PBJ's.
Oh good news, the shortblock is done and shipping today YAY!

If you can't find anyone that owns a fender roller, Further Performance in Minneapolis rents one out for $100/week.

Thanks for the heads up. I know Jeff (alignment guy) also has one he rents.
This is far down on my list of things to do for my car, I need to worry about getting it running first and tuned. Then whatever time/money is left get the stance fixed.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
Smaller update:
I stopped by DB friday afternoon, saw Kracka there too (sorry for not making the bday, I had other stuff planned that didn't fall through ) and spoke with Danny for a bit.
My shortblock is there now all finished up and sexy looking with 2.2L goodness. My head is cleaned and done now, it was all good. They decked it too and pressure tested it and everything is solid now. Danny said he was going to start this week on assembling the longblock, so we are moving now. They have everything except my new turbo which MAP said will be done Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday area and they are going to drop it off at DB. We are moving now
Edit: I just realized I called this a small update yet this is prolly more info pertaining to the car then I normally give haha.

My goal is to make the cookout, same as last year. Hopefully this year it comes true.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
Never updated here, but I bought some beatrush rear diff spacers, torque solutions drive shaft carrier bushings and some AMS gate selector bushings. I have had the AMS shifter bushings for in the engine bay for a while to install too.
So all that and my eibach springs to install when I get the car...time to tighten it up

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
Looks like my oil pan is toast again, so Danny ordered a new one for me, it will be here Wednesday it looks like. I asked if it could be saved and he said this...
"I have hot tanked the Oil pan 3 times now and blasted 6 or 7 cans of brake clean through the seams on that internal baffle as well as about 400 gallons of compressed air!! I still can see debris stuck down in the seam. I think we just need to get a new oil pan and move forward. "
I thought about getting a Jun baffled oil pan to make sure I always have a good oil pickup point, but it didn't seem worth it at 2.5x the cost of the OEM, not to mention I am sure it would've taken weeks to get.
Danny also said he would've had the engine done Thursday if he had my head dowel pins that ERL forgot to send back, which are en route now. So getting damn close it looks like, I hope I make the cookout, thats my goal.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
^Not until the head dowel pins get back. ERL said they sent them last Monday so not sure why they aren't at DB yet. I am sure they showed up Friday. Danny said he has everything done that he can until he can put the head back on so waiting on the dowel pins. Not sure if that means he put it in the car at all or not.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
Two things.
First: If you can see the bits of debris, why can't you stick a small pick in there and get it out.
B: if all that effort to get it out without actually touching it with something didn't work, how is oil going to get it out?
p.s. isn't there a filter on the oil pickup tube?

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
First: if you can see debris on the top side of the cracks and could get it with a pick, how do you know the bottom side is clean? How are you going to get at that with a pick?
B: Hot oil and with the hot oil splashing around can cause some weird things to happen.
A filter on the pickup doesn't always stop everything or much of anything little. On an expensive engine build like this, an oil pan isn't all that much for peace of mind.

This, I haven't seen it myself so I can only relay what DB has told me. I trust Danny so I will just get a new pan.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
If there's anything that could break debris loose It would be hot oil splashing around. Definitely worth it for peace of mind. It only takes one little chunk of metal to get into a bearing to make you do everything over AGAIN. Good luck!
